Purpose/ objectives of BCA:
Establish and maintain children’s play area.
Promote good citizenship and greater public participation and solution of crime. Preserve and protect health and to relieve sickness.
## **Socials**
▪ The BCA put on and supported a range of events this year.
▪ Some annual events, such as:
- Village BBQ.
- Christmas party children.
- Christmas party adults.
- Halloween trick or treat.
▪ Would welcome ideas for events or regular groups or volunteers.
▪ Continues to provide an area for children in the village for recreational purposes.
▪ In its ninth year.
- Indications that this area is used by the children of the village as well as people visiting the area.
- BCA maintains by organising an annual site inspection (29[th] January 2026) and covered the insurance.
- Aluminium fence post caps have been added to each fence post.
- –
- Repairs carried out this year costing £2,205 three crossbeams on the activity trail not up to code (covered under warranty), swing seats were highlighted to needing action soon. Decided to replace both together.
- The dry-stone wall boundary collapsed this year and has been removed.
## **Community speed watch**
**Stats for May 2025 to April 2026:**
- Done 72 sessions
- 4 at Marsh lane, 68 at Hillside.
## ▪ 1451 cars exceeding 35mph.
- Increase in number of speeding cars this year.
- Increase seen after move to Hillside, at the end of May.
- Top speed recorded was 60mph in July.
- General trend is a decrease in percentage of speeding vehicles through the village over the year.

- Neighbourhood Watch James Pearse is the coordinator and is responsible for circulating updates.
## **Speed indication device**
▪ Target cost for the two is £6.5-8K.
- Cost covered but BCA and funds donated on a Go Fund Me page that was set up. The total amount of donations is £2,170.
▪ Approval from Nettleton Parish Council, but no financial support, was requested.
- Approval from Wiltshire Council was granted.
- Sign locations agreed with Wiltshire police.
- Two poles and sockets have been ordered, to go at either end of the village.
▪ The SID devices will be ordered once poles are fitted.
▪ Pole/socket fitting will be done by Wiltshire Council contractor(s).
- Volunteers in the village work hard to maintain the appearance of the village.
- Clearing steps of leaves.
- Mowing the grass.
- Trimming verges to allow visibility.
- Looking at the plants/flowers along the village verges/beds.
- Spray cleaning signs and white village boundary gates.
- For the second year running there have been issues with the emptying of dog poo bins. In April 2026, existing bins were replaced with bigger bins.
- Had issues with rubbish, including emptying of dog poo bins, also the play park bin being misused.
- In autumn, villagers gathered to clear the drains and gullies.
- Footpath linking The Street and Toll Down Way has had new lights installed. There are more than before, lighting more of the path on darker evenings.
- The clearing of the drains and gulleys, during the winter, paid off with extra water and run off being directed into the brook.
## **Health and wellbeing**
## **Defibrillator:**
- Located outside OHH.
- –
- BCA continues to maintain the defibrillator monthly inspections and report online to ‘The Circuit’ who monitor it.
- Defibrillator pads and a battery were purchased, costing £309.
- Electronic keypad has become defective. Not repairable so unclip side catches to access.
## **CPR:**
- Training is not mandatory for our volunteers, though a refresher course can be offered periodically.
- There are 15 trained volunteers. Training has been scheduled.
- More volunteers welcomed.
## **Community WhatsApp:**
- As of April 2026, 40 Households have joined.
- This continues to be a means to communicate in emergencies, allowing for a swift response.
- –
- November 2005 Storm Claudia, the need for help was communicated and potential flooding was avoided. In advance of the storm, after a yellow weather warning was communicated, residents rally to carry out preventative actions, including making sure drains were clear.
- –
- March 2026 used to communicate information regarding a missing girl from Nettleton. Lead to villagers who had seen her be able to assist the police.
## **Village Brook:**
- Creating a detailed map of the brook, including the boundaries with properties.
- Allowing for areas needing attention to be highlighted and for future planning.
- Nettleton Parish Council has been provided with a copy of the map and will be responsible for contacting appropriate landowners when required to carry out work.
- The 100 club was formed in 2015, providing a monthly draw in which subscription payments provide the prizes. The subscription is £5 a month.
- Subscription payment are spilt 50% for cash prizes, 50% to be used for community/ association projects.
- For the current year, ending May 2026, the income from subscription was £3,505. Of this, £20 was paid for the licence fee (which is from Wiltshire Council and renewed in May each year) and £1,430 was prize money. Leaving £2,055 available to the BCA.
- Monthly draw continues to take place, usually at the OHH, on last Friday of the month. The draw is done by different person each month, without a connection to a member of the lottery, so often a visitor to the village.
- 100 Club is a key part to providing regular funding for the BCA activities and the trustees hope residents will continue to subscribe to the lottery, ensuring funds are available for the BCA to meet on going commitments.
- For the 2025-26 there were 62 members, which was an increase of 1 on the year before.
## **Financial**
▪ At end of March 2026:
- Bank balance £10,214.18.
▪ Money has been allocated to SID devices and remedial works on the play area.
