Treasurer's Report- Financial Year 2025 The 2025 financial year was a busy year with better than average income which was set against higher- than-normal expenditure. There was an increase in income from museum admissions and sales, Hillcrest talks and a small profit from the sale of the Newhaven fimes. Membership forthe year also increased from the previous year. This helped to offset the cost of continuing museum malntenance and refurbishment and the expensive and time-consuming museum artifatt preservation work which is ongoing. The museum electrics including a complete overhaul of the lighting proved expensive but necessary- never-th&less there was a small profit forthe year. The society was able to provide a full programme of talks atthe Hlllcrest Centre, the Newhaven Museum opened on April 2151 later than usual due to the refurblshment works. closing at the end of October for the winter period. The society was represented at the RNLI fete; we are normally represented at the Denton Challenge, but this year. due to adverse weather condition, the fete had to be cancelled. In general, 2025 proved a financlal success despite the hlgh level of necessary expenditure in the museum. Membership of the soclety and subscrlptlons to the Newhaven fimes both increased, museum admissions and sales Increased Isee Curators report) and interest from our bank HSBC1see attached accounts) helped offset the HSBC bank charges. Expenses in 2026 are expected to be lower than in 2025. Current Flnanclal Posltlon General Fund: (Financiol occountsfor year attached) The Newhaven Historical Society accounts for 2025 has been $18ned off by our examlnef. Excess of income over expenditure for the financial year was £175.35 The society is still subject to bank charges, which are offset favourably by the Increase In the interest rate we received on our deposit account. Of course, interest rates fall as well as rise so this may not remain in our favour in the future. Current Flnandal Posftlon Restrlcted Fund: (Finonciol occountsfor yeor attoched) The National Lottery Project is nearing completion. All costs have been paid; the Restrlcted Fund now shows a deficit which we anticipate wlll be covered by the final payment from the lottery grant in 2026. c) Extraordlnary Expenses: These include the purchase of two wreaths laid by the society in memory of the Dieppe raid and Remembrance Day. Two new card readers, a new Wi-Fi mic and display boards for museum exhibitions were purchased. Special mention: 'A thank you to Dees News fortheir continued support in selling the Newhaven Times. The society received a bequest of £500 from the estate of Maurice Balcombe. Thank you to the Vietnamese Embassy for their donation of £200. Manythanks to our Accounts Examiner, MrTony Richardson, who agaln completed the examination of the societrfs accoun Stefan Storoszko- Honorary Treasurer, Newhaven Historical Society.
