The object of the charity is to educate the public in the history of Newhaven and the surrounding area.

Activity during the period was affected by restrictions related to the Covid19 pandemic. However, the object was achieved by maintaining the Newhaven Museum located at Paradise Park Newhaven, which opened from July to October 2021. We held 2 lectures on local history open to members and the public, and responding to numerous enquiries, received electronically, about local history from members of the public. Further work was undertaken refurbishing the reception area of the museum, cataloguing and conserving artefacts and documents, and refreshing museum displays during its closure. The trustees have had regard to the guidance issued by the Charity Commission on public benefit.

The charity is entirely run by volunteers as trustees and stewards at the museum.

The charity has a small reserve of c. £5,000 to cover future unseen contingencies such as having to vacate the museum premises.

The charity’s principal sources of funds are members subscriptions, museum and lecture admission fees, sales of books etc and donations from individuals and local organisations. During the period a substantial government grant was received to compensate for the loss of income due to the museum’s closure.

The trustees declare that they approved the trustees’ report above.

Signed on behalf of the Trustees

William Edward Pilfold, Secretary 21 March 2022
