Church Crookham and Fleet Men's Shed Trustees Annual Report for the year ending March 2021

Church Crookham and Fleet Men's Shed is a Charitable Incorporated Organisation (CIO), registered charity number 1171613. Church Crookham and Fleet Men's Shed operates from its own purpose built shed at Gurkha Path, Naishes Lane, Church Crookham GU52 8DT. The trustees of Church Crookham and Fleet Men's Shed present their annual report and accounts for the year ending March 2021.

The trustees are:

Allan Walker (Chairman)

Malcolm Thompson (Treasurer)

Bob Stokes

Robert Norris

Church Crookham and Fleet Men's Shed is governed by its constitution dated 24th January 2017; trustees are elected by members of Church Crookham and Fleet Men's Shed in accordance with the constitution. Our objects as specified are: "The promotion of social inclusion for the public benefit of men and women living in Church Crookham/Fleet and the surrounding area to combat loneliness and social isolation arising as result of their age, infirmity, disability, financial hardship or social circumstance. To do this we will provide workshop facilities where they can meet to socialise and engage in activities together, such facilities being aimed at increasing their engagement, skills and condition of life." The trustees believe we have complied with our objects as stated in our constitution and will continue to do so for the benefit of our members and the public.

At the end of March 2021 the total value of cash and bank deposits was E23160.

At all times Church Crookham and Fleet Men's aim to have reserves of a minimum of E3,900 which equates to a years annual operational costs.

Membership At the end of the reportingyear, we had 25 members.

Covid-19 Impact Like so many Men's Sheds, our activities from March 2020 onwards were greatly reduced and progress has been greatly slowed. Where we have been able to hold Shed sessions, numbers were limited and various PPE and cleaning protocols implemented to ensure we have Covid-Safe environments.

Activities and Achievements In the year reported, our activities and achievements included:

Project Shield a stand-alone project to help support local care homes and workers with PPE when none was available in the UK.

Training of one of our trustees as a Health Champion as part of our participation in and evaluation of the SBS project as it relates to Men's Sheds.

Making staging and tables for Hart's "Minding the Garden Project" A project a similar to the same ethos of Men's Shed.

Carried out workshops with local youth groups (Guides) making bird boxes.

Each of these activities relates to our objectives and contributes to the wider community in which we live. The atmosphere at the Shed is generally good and helpful. New members are welcomed , and there is usually someone to give a helping hand about anything — ranging from advice and guidance to solving technical problems. In addition to members usingtheir skills to help each other, specific help is given to members with some disabilities to enable them to make and mend things.

We continued to work with new or forming, Sheds to give help and advice on how to get started.

We continued to participate in the European SBS (Step-by-Step) project which is aimed at improving Men's Health through providing health advice to men's groups in a number of geographic areas, including Hampshire.

The future Church Crookham and Fleet Men's Shed continued to grow at a steady rate up until Covid caused us to close our doors in March 2020. We hope to be back to operating close to normal by the end of the next reporting period. In the meantime, we will operate within the Covid re strictions. As restrictions are lifted, we will open up our Shed to members so that we can, albeit with limitations, get members back making and mending things and having some social interaction. The Shed is a valuable community charity and the trustees are determine d to get back in business as soon as possible, delivering our main aim of reducing social isolation and loneliness. We provide a valuable service to our members; it is clear there is a need for us (many of our members report that the Shed has given them back the banter and camaraderie that they lost when retiring from work).

Thanks The trustees and members of Church Crookham and Fleet Men's Shed express their appreciation for the support provided by Church Crookham Parish Council and the local community for their continued support.

The trustees declare that they have approved the trustees' report above.
