Work on the restoration of Denmans Garden, whi¢h is associated with the Charity, continued as rl will for several years. The garden again attracted over 10,C(JO in 2023. The Garden won Gold in the South and South East in Bloom competrtion for the third year in a row. It also won RHS Partner Garden ofthe Year for the South and Channel Islands for the second time. Summary of the main activities undertaken for the public benefit in relation to theso objects {include within this section the ststutory declaration that trustees have had regard to the guidance issued by the Charity Commission on public benefit) Art classes have continued and expanded. More classes are planned for 2024. Jo Dowers, Denmans, second artist-ln-res1den al Denmans, completed her year and an exhibition displaying her work was held during the month of October. Oscar Romp. a local figurative artist will be the next artist-in- residence. His residency will be just over a year long. Denmans opened for the National Garden Scheme in February, April, and October 2023 with proceeds going to NGS. The garden first opened to the NGS in 1967. A perfomiance of Don Giovanni performed by City Music. a London based charity was held in September 2023. Garden design classes run by ihe London College of Garden Design were offered. Additional details of objectives and activities (Optional infomiation) The volunteer program at Denmans continued and expanded in 2023 under the leadership of new Head Gardener, Jonathan Arnold. The intent remains to build and maintain the volunteer base to help renovate and sustain the garden and promote and lell its history. The Aldingboume Foundation (which supports people with leaming disabilities andlor autism lo lead independent lives) continues to plant and care for the planters at the entrance of the garden and we are planning to work wrth them to develop signage. Section D Achievements and performance We post regular blogs about the garden on our website, www.denmans.org and continue to send out a monthly newsletter to local and intemational recipients. Our social media presence continues to grow. Summary of the main achievements of the charity during the year We continue to restore the garden which was badly neglected. We have successfully continued to propagate plants for sale, continuing in the footsteps of the garden's founder. Joyce Robinson. The chaimian of the John Brookes-Denmans Foundation gave several talks for various groups, including the National Garden Scheme about Denmans Garden, John Brookes, and his legacy Denmans again participaled in the South and South East in Bloom competition (part of Britain in Bloom) and won Gold for the 4, lime. Denmans also was one of 6 finalists in the RHS Partner Garden 'Partner Garden of the Yeav competition for the second time in three years. A celebration in honour of John Brookes MBE'S goih birthday was held al Denmans Garden wtth Denmans Garden staff, press, designers and others. Social media posts honouring Brookes were posted everyday in October.
