## **CHARITABLE OBJECT** 

The purpose of the charity is the promotion of community participation in healthy recreation in the sport of sailing, developing a habit for life in an outside environment and providing children with opportunities that they would not otherwise experience. We want to teach young people to sail safely and encourage water safety. We know from comments that some of our juniors and patents have made, that being on the water is a way of switching off from the demands of school and just being able to be themselves and clear their heads benefitting their mental health. 

This year the numbers of new children sailing with us on a regular basis has increased and we now have _11_ new children sailing on a Monday evening. Six of our older juniors have competed in events throughout the winter with amazing results. One of them has competed nationally and inter nationally and is a national champion. Four others have attended winter training and regattas at venues across the South West with excellent results. One is now SW and Southern regional champion. 

In order to encourage more children, we run RYA, Level1/ 2, level 3, AI courses and are beginning to enable older young people to be confident in a support boat. We realise the importance of reaching out to the wider community and as part of this, we will be  hosting children from a local Grammar school for their Enrichment week . 

The club is incredibly fortunate to have a large number of very committed volunteers and parents willing to help with maintaining and rigging boats etc. 



Our main objective is to increase our membership and extend opportunities for more children to sail, through training. To do this we need to increase the number of sailing instructors and the size of our safety boats.  We have a number of ageing dinghies which we are hoping to replace in the near future, We would like to purchase a new or nearly new RIB. 

We have raised funds by charging for the use of boats and holding quiz nights. We are constantly looking to increase our funds and are looking at accessing various funding sources 

## **ORGANISATIONAL STRUCTURE AND DECISION-MAKING PROCESSES** 

The charity has a board of 7 directors who meet at regular intervals and are responsible for the daily running of the club. We also have a huge number of volunteers who give up many hours of their time both supporting on the water but in the upkeep of our boats and equipment. We are extremely grateful for this workforce. We have 2 Trustees appointed by the board. 

## **SAFEGUARDING** 

Our Safeguarding Policy and Procedures are in line with the policy of the Brixham Yacht Club. 


## **FINANCIAL REVIEW 2025** 

The reserves are held in a club current account and the money is saved to replace worn out equipment. Our principal sources of funds come from fundraising, boat fees and donations. 

The trustees are satisfied that they have sufficient reserves at the year-end together with the ongoing income anticipated to enable the club to function effectively in the coming year.
