In this year, due to the Covid pandemic all the trustees have met on a regular basis via Skype/Zoom (as one trustee is based in Israel, one in the USA and two in the UK). This is likely to remain the case for the foreseeable future to ensure the safety of all trustees and compliance with National government Covid guidelines. All trustee meetings are minuted. There is an Executive comprising of a President, Senior Vice-President, VicePresident, and Treasurer elected by the members in general meeting. The Executive report on a regular basis to the Trustees and the President. A wider network within which the charity works includes the GLO – the Global Labor Organisation (see section D), the Society for the Advancement of Management Studies, the British Academy of Management, the European Council for Small Business and Entrepreneurship, COPE (The Committee on Publication Ethics) various universities across the world, scientific and professional organisations whose principal business concerns research in business, management, accounting and finance and associated social science disciplines together with the key academic publishers namely Elsevier, Emerald, Sage, Springer Palgrave and Taylor & Francis Wiley. Furthermore, in the coming year, INBAM will look to further develop networks with other learned societies such as the Academy of Management and the European Academy of Management.

Summary of the objects of the charity set out in its governing document
To advance the education of the public in general (and particularly amongst academic researchers) on publishing research in journals of business, management and associated social sciences, and to promote that research where possible for the public benefit and to support and encourage the education of young researchers, early and later career academics wherever they may live or work, in the development, composition and publishing of their research papers in reputable journals.
Summary of the main activities undertaken for the public benefit in relation to these objects (include within this section the statutory declaration that trustees have had regard to the guidance issued by the Charity Commission on public benefit)
The trustees have had regard to the guidance issued by the Charity Commission’s Guidance on the public benefit when exercising any powers or duties in public and especially during trustee meetings. The charity was set up to advance the education of the general public but particularly the education of young business and management researchers, in the complex development and operation of publishing research into the public domain via top-tier journals produced by the leading publishers. In order to advance this general objective particular attention and activities have been devoted to enhancing and extending the training and education of young and early career researchers wherever they may live and work, regardless of their gender, faith, income, or status. The publication of highlevel leading-edge business and management research contributes to the more efficient operation and productive management of all kinds of organisations (whether for-profit or not-for profit, public or private) which in turn generates employment and GDP growth. The impact of business and management research is incalculable but known without question to have positive societal benefits. The trustees further the charity’s purpose for the public benefit by raising public awareness through periodically setting up and running workshops, contributing to the work of COPE (The Committee on Publication Ethics) and communicating the value to society of business and management research however obscure or distant this may seem at first glance.

Section D Achievements and performance
Due to the impact of Covid pandemic on the University sector, it Summary of the main has not been possible to organise any events during the achievements of the 2020/2021 academic year. The pandemic has had a significant charity during the year negative impact on the University sector through increased faculty workloads, reduced research funding and significantly less academic time for research activities. Moreover, during this period, many conferences have been cancelled or run as online only events due to fears regarding the pandemic. As a result, the trustees decided not to organise events and invest in activities in such a high-risk environment. It is hoped that this situation will change during 2022 to allow INBAM to resume its workshop activities.
Poolemead Accountants (Winchester) Ltd, Chartered Accountants, continue to provide the registered business address of the charity, postal collection and transfer facilities and general advice on accounting and business systems. INBAM is very grateful for the continued assistance of David Mead and Kay Mead of Poolemead Ltd.
Section E Financial review
Brief statement of the charity’s policy on reserves
Details of any funds materially in deficit
The charity operates on a simple income and expenditure basis and seeks to ensure that its activities at least break-even financially. Any surpluses are put back into charity activities in support of the principal objectives. The only reserves are the cash at bank at any given time.
None
Further financial review details (Optional information)
You may choose to include additional information, where relevant about:
-
the charity’s principal sources of funds (including any fundraising);
-
how expenditure has supported the key objectives of the charity;
-
investment policy and objectives including any ethical investment policy adopted.
Currently there are two main sources of funds:
-
member fees and
-
INBAM services in providing publishing workshops.
During 2020-21 the 2020 AGM agreed that no membership fees would be payable given the unprecedented impact of the Covid Pandemic on the University sector. All expenditure during the year relates to bank charges, accounting systems, design and development of the charity’s website, domain name renewal and email facilities. These activities underpin and support the work of the charity and pursuit of its key objectives.
Section F Other optional information
The covid-19 epidemic has curtailed INBAM’s work in the 2020-21 academic year. It is hoped that the situation will improve to allow the resumption of activities in 2022.
