Trustees Report

The Trust had an income of £22,805 during the financial year 2021/22, and is below the £25,000 threshold for further reporting with the Charity Commission. Since the Charity is below the audit threshold it may prepare a simple annual report

The Trust is transparent on all income and expenditure, and publishes these details through the CC16a form.

We thank Nythe, Eldene and Liden Parish Council for their continued support, and financial contribution, towards the operation of the Library.

Summary of the main activities in relation to those purposes for the public benefit.

The Swindon Community Library Trust currently runs one community library in Liden, Swindon. We operate the local library service in East Swindon, assist with home library service and support events including story time for children, Liden Library was open 2- 3 days a week throughout the year.

The Library hosted a community café, operated by the local charity Open Door.

Trustees are reminded of public benefit rules which are available at https://www.gov.uk/guidance/public-benefit-rules-for-charities

SCLT does not provide grants to any other parties.

Statement explaining the policy for holding reserves stating why they are held

The Charity’s policy for reserves is that these will be reinvested to enhance the Library. Our primary objective is the running of the Library for the public, and the minimum of funds are held in reserve.

Amount of Reserves held

£3,066

Explanation of any uncertainties about the charity continuing as a going concern

The charity is properly constituted, well supported by NEL Parish Council, and has no issues about continuing as a going concern on the basis of this continued support.

Discussions are required with Swindon 105.5 about a new lease, and the level of future rental income due to the Trust.

The charity’s principal sources of funds (including any fundraising)

SCLT receives it’s majority funding from NEL Parish Council, and receives a rental income from Swindon 105.5 for use of the offices in the building.

A description of the principal risks facing the charity

Ongoing limitations in its ability to diversify it’s fundraising, the continued good will of NEL Parish Council to provide financial support, encouraging more volunteers to assist with the running of the Library and building capacity within the Trust and greater involvement in efforts through the Trustees.
