Annual Report
The last 12 months has seen Liden Library, and the Trust, placed in hibernation due to the Covid pandemic.
A risk management assessment has been conducted, and while the Library has the potential to open for short times for “click and collect”, the additional cost of cleaning and increased overheads, limited ability to raise new funds, and management issues such as quarantining returned books with no volunteers assisting make it impractical.
Volunteering in the year ahead will need to be rebuilt. Volunteers are generally retired, and during the pandemic they have avoided going into public settings where there is an increased risk of catching covid or have decided to no longer assist. This is understandable in the current climate and presents a new challenge for post-pandemic life.
Running costs have been minimized, and as a result, the Nythe, Eldene and Liden Parish Council grant has not been required, and was not sought. No payments other than direct debits have made, and available cash has increased slightly.
The Café has remained closed throughout the year, and there is no expectation of it reopening under the previous arrangements.
Local radio station 105.5 is based within the same building as Liden Library, and they have continued to pay their monthly rent so this has remained a stable income stream to assist.
