Faversham Gospel Mission

Trustees Annual Report
1 April 2023- 31 March 2024
Aims and Objectives
'For the public benefrt, to advance the Christian faith in Faversham, Kent and such other
parts of the United Kingdom and the world as the Charrty Trustees may from time to time
decide.,
Structure and organisational relationships
Founded in the 1880s, in 2017 the Mission became a Charitable Incorporated Organisation
whose only voting members are its charrty trustees. The spiritual leaders, deacons and
trustees meet regulady. The Mission is a member body of the Evangelical Allian￿, and we
are active within Churches Together in Faversham.
Summary of main activities
We continued lo hold a worship and teaching Servi￿ every Sunday moming, with
Communion monthly. Numbers attending remained around 2540, There were regular prayer
meetings and occasional special events. All church activities were open to all without any
charge. Practical and pastoral support has continued to be provided to any in need,
confidentially and without charge.
From the proceeds of the sale of the Manse in 2019, an extraordinary grant of £50,000 was
made to Uganda Concem UK to fund the provision of a brand new Toyota Land Cruiser for
their rural work in Uganda. Similarly. preparations began to fund a Major renovation of the
church building, work to begin in May 2024.
We continued to host the town's Trussell Foodbank. Salvation Amiy volunteers working
informally alongside us held meetings and developed their Gommunity wardrobe. Ever sin
the 1880s we have been home to the now-named Faversham Mission Brass, storing
instruments and providing weekly rehearsal spa￿. A community choir a150 used the hall
most weeks for rehearsal.
These communty activtties demonslrate how the trustees continually have regard for the
Charity Commission guidance on public benefrt.
Financial review
Believing in 'every member ministry, we have no paid slaff. We do not fundraise, and re￿1ve
no grants from govemment or other SoUr￿s. Only very exceptionally do we make grants.
Our receipts and payments accounts for the year show income of £33,795 and expenditure
of £80,375, the deficit being £46,580 During the year we made regular disbursements to six
Christian organisations, totalling £3,879. To protect assets we continued to hold sums of
£85,000 (the maximum FSA guarantee) in hyo Christian banks. These have earned modest
amounts of interest, but we also recognise the spintual investment. No funds are held as
custodian trustees on behalf of others.
We have a fomial reserves poli￿ of a￿yS holding a minimum of three months, average
expenditure. Despite recurring annual deficits of income over expendlture, we have no short-
or medium-term concems about the Mission's finan￿al stabilty. There is no un￿rtaintY
about the charity continuing as a going concem.
