Section D Achievements and performance **Summary of the main Action research project achievements of the charity during the year** The first phases of the project focused on collecting information about the obstacles young women and men face in accessing higher education in Haryana and ‘testing’ a possible way of addressing these through outreach events organised at government colleges. The team have planned the ways in which they are going to share the results and their draft recommendations with those who have contributed to the project and with those who are in a position to make a difference. The project partners and collaborators in India are key to this. The project has been built around an ethos of mutual collaboration and broad participation with our Indian partners. Now the focus moves to them. They are the ones who, on the basis of our project, will make change happen within the wider policy worlds. Much of 2020 was spent planning the project impact and dissemination for 2021 which will include:  A research-focused conference at TISS Mumbai  A policy-focused event potentially at NIEPA in Delhi  A Haryana specific event to be hosted by one of our project contacts. **Manav Mandir Ashram Orphanage** 2020 was a very challenging year due to the pandemic. Here are some ways in which we supported the children at the ashram. Academics We enrolled 2 young adults into Higher Education after successful completion of school. One gained admission into the prestigious Delhi University and has enrolled onto a Bachelor’s of Art degree and another gained admission onto a Diploma in Pharmacy at DIPSAR (Delhi Institute of Pharmaceutical Sciences and Research). Employment opportunity One of the young adults completed his training programme at HCL and has subsequently been employed as a Software Engineer. He is simultaneously pursuing a BCA from Sastra University. FCF funded his training and continue to fund his BCA. Mentoring programme We continued to run a mentoring programme for the older children (classes 11 and 12) to help guide them in their future career choices and preparation for university. English Language Development Apart from the regular English and Maths & Science tutors to help with academics, we continue to employ an additional English tutor to focus on the children’s conversational English and communication skills. Medical assistance We renewed the medical insurance for all the ashram children and organised an annual health check-up for each child followed by a health consultation by a doctor. We also arranged for all the children to receive the Flu vaccine. One of the ashram young adults met with a severe accident in September 2020 and the insurance allowed for his surgery and hospitalisation to be covered. Also one of the ashram children was

diagnosed with psychosis and we paid for him to be treated by a psychiatrist.

## Internet Connection

Due to the pandemic, the school had to switch to online teaching. The ashram didn’t have adequate bandwidth so FCF sponsored a separate internet connection for the ashram children so that the online studies were not interrupted.
