Charitable Objectives
To educate the public in the musical arts and to facilitate the musical aspirations of its members and to further their advancement in the art of playing brass band and popular music in concerts and other activities in the wider community.
Constitution
The band operates under a constitution adopted at a General Meeting held on 4[th ] September 2016.
Activities during the Year
The Band has seen a turbulent year, with challenges in both committee members and paid jobs. An Oktoberfest was planned but poorly implemented, culminating in expenses of over £500 and the cancellation of the event only a few weeks before the deadline. Committee members had to also deal with the fallout of issues between players where many players left the band. The band’s growth was seriously impeded during the later part of 2023. This report has been written in April 2024 and the band is yet to return to rehearsals since Christmas. A trustees meeting and AGM dated late March 2024 have appointed new members with a drive to resurrect the band. There is also talk of working with other bands such as Upper Rhondda and Tata, who’s numbers have dwindled. Travel expenses were paid to band members who had travelled long distances to rehearsals to the sum of £438.75.
Christmas 2023 was a very difficult fundraising with many players either not available or refusing to return due to the murky waters. Total fundraising income was £640.00 (£2435.00 the previous year). This has been immediately reversed for 2024.
Costs for the band room have remained as per the previous year, with the insurance rising slightly per month. Maintenance needs to be planned for 2024 as we have water ingress through the front of the building.
Income Reserve Policy
The Band aims to retain sufficient reserve funds in order to cover any future capital expenditure, to be used for example on our band room, instruments, uniforms, music and other assets to allow it to continue its charitable objectives.
