Lancaster Judges’ Lodgings Museum Trust
Trustees’ Report for the year ending 31 December 2024
The Trustees regularly meet with officers of Lancashire County Council which owns and runs the museum. Through these meetings, Trustees can influence decisions made regarding the operation and development of the Judges’ Lodgings.
Lancashire County Council has increased the number of employees working at the museum, a key improvement which had been recommended by Trustees during meetings with elected members.
The Trust has supported two key initiatives during the year. Financial support was given to the Light Up Lancaster Project which brings an artistic light festival to the city every year. The Trust’s financial support enabled the artist collective Imitating the Dog to produce an animated story designed to fit the exterior of the Judges’ Lodgings. The animation was projected on the exterior of the building over three nights, attracting several thousand people and successfully promoting the museum.
The Trust also provided financial support for an exhibition developed by the museum’s staff. Style & Sensibility: Regency Fashion 1800 – 1830s used the fiction of Jane’s Austen’s novels to explore early nineteenth century fashion. Displays in the period rooms included day, evening and walking dress alongside shoes, bags, waistcoats, fashion plates, pattern books and poems. Funds supplied by the Trust were used to support the conservation of some of the objects on display.
Overall, the services provided by the Lancaster Judges’ Lodgings Museum improve year on year. The Trustees would like to express their support for the staff of the Judges’ Lodgings and note their effectiveness in developing and promoting the museum.
