## **Governance and management**
Voice of Hope is a Charitable Incorporated Organisation (CIO) which operates under the rules of its constitution adopted on 18 January 2017.
## **Summary of objects**
The objects of the CIO are to promote human rights (as set out in the universal declaration of human rights and subsequent united nations conventions and declarations) throughout the world through the prevention of modern slavery including human trafficking by:
- 1) raising awareness of modern slavery;
- 2) promoting public support for the prevention of modern slavery;
- 3) offering training and education on modern slavery;
- 4) conducting research into modern slavery;
- 5) relieving need among the victims of modern slavery;
- 6) raising funds to be used in the relief and prevention of modern slavery
## **Public Benefit**
The trustees confirm that they have complied with the requirements of section 4 of the Charities Act 2011 to have due regard to the public benefit guidance published by the Charity Commission of England and Wales.

## **Summary of main activities during the year**
The nature of Modern Slavery is an insidious one. Millions of men, women and children are trapped in horrific slavery conditions around the world, consequently and unknowingly, it is present in the food we eat, the clothes we wear, and the technology we are increasingly reliant on.
Voice of Hope was set up to raise awareness of the scope and scale of both Modern Slavery and Human Trafficking to enhance understanding and effectively empowering, equipping and influencing others to bring about positive and transformational change.
Voice of Hope continues to be dedicated to raising public awareness of the horrifying reality of human trafficking and modern slavery.
## **Summary of main achievements during the year**
During 2023 Voice of Hope delivered training to:
- Adults who received Modern Slavery Awareness 986
- Children who received Modern Slavery Awareness 743
- Adults who received County Lines and Child Exploitation 100+
- Children who received County Lines Awareness 1614
Delegates were from the Police & Fire Dept, NHS, Stoke Council, Housing Organisation, Community Groups, Schools and Churches.
We supported 8 potential victims of Modern Slavery in partnership with Staffordshire Police, providing accommodation, clothing and food.
We also support the homeless in the Adullam Shelter in Stoke, speaking to over 311 individuals about the dangers they may face as vulnerable adults.
Data from the Home Office indicates how urgent our mission is, thousands of men, women and children are being referred into the UK’s framework, The National Referral Mechanism, demonstrating that awareness across the sectors is impactful and effective.
The haunting truth is that modern slavery lurks much closer than we realise.
## **The charity’s policy on reserves**
It has been agreed by the trustees to keep three months of expenditure in reserves. This is set for the current oncoming year for £12,000. The total unrestricted reserves held at the end of the year was £3,721 (2022: £4,234) and total restricted reserves held was £53,617 (2022: £34,294).

## **Independent examiner’s report to the trustees of Voice of Hope for the year ended 31 December 2023**
I report to the charity trustees on my examination of the accounts of the charity for the period ended 31 December 2023 which are set out on pages 5 to 7.
## **Respective responsibilities of trustees and examiner**
As the charity’s trustees of Voice of Hope, you are responsible for the preparation of the accounts in accordance with requirements of the Charities Act 2011 (‘the Act).
I report in respect of my examination of the Voice of Hope accounts carried out under section 145 of the 2011 Act and in carrying out my examination I have followed all the applicable Directions given by the Charity Commission under section 145(5)(b) of the Act.
## **Independent examiner’s statement**
I have completed my examination. I confirm that no material matters have come to my attention in connection with the examination giving me cause to believe that in any material respect:
1. Accounting records were not kept in respect of Voice of Hope as required by section 130 of the Act; or
2. the accounts do not accord with those records; or
3. the accounts to not comply with the accounting requirements concerning the form and content of accounts set out in the Charities (Accounts and Reports) Regulations 2008 other than any requirement that the accounts give a ‘true and fair view’ which is not a matter considered as part of an independent examination.
I have no concerns and have come across no other matters in connection with the examination to which attention should be drawn in this report in order to enable a proper understanding of the accounts to be reached.

## **Purpose of restricted funds**
People Power Fund – Funding from the Office of the Police and Crime Commissioner Staffordshire to support the delivery of the ‘Raising Awareness to End Modern Slavery’ project.
Operational Staff Costs – Funding to help charity operations and to recruit new staff.
Tampax Tampon Grant – Funding for Project Dignity.
Community Foundation Malam – Funding to pay for various administration and printing costs.
