## **DIRECTORS REPORT FOR THE PERIOD ENDED 31st December 2022**

The directors have pleasure in submitting their Report for the period ended 31st December 2022

## **GENERAL INFORMATION**

CONNECT is a Charitable Organisation (CIO) Registered in England and Wales with the Charity Commission under registration Number 1171158. Its registered office is All Nations Christian Centre, Temple Street, Wolverhampton, WV2 4AQ.

## **OBJECTIVES**

- The Charitable objects are the advancement of the Christian Faith in Wolverhampton and surrounding areas by:

   - Promoting Christian faith and values encompassing all denominations and traditions.

   - Promoting collaboration between churches

   - Supporting community projects among churches and in collaboration with other community agencies

   - Supporting Church leaders

## **ACHIEVEMENTS AND PERFORMANCE**

Some of the activities of the organisation were again limited as a result of the ongoing COVID-19 Pandemic:

- The usual Easter event on Queen’s Square could not go ahead though it is now planned for 2023; however

- The Carol Service with J John in December 2022 was able to proceed and was met with relative success. The majority of those present were already Christians however a number of people made a first-time commitment to faith and a number of people recommitted to their Christian faith.

Throughout the course of the year, again subject to social distancing requirements and lockdowns, CONNECT continued to offer opportunity for Church leaders to gather and support one another through the monthly ministers’ meetings on the 2[nd] Tuesday of each month.

A monthly prayer meeting was reinstated in the Autumn at the YMCA to bring together church and lay leaders to pray for the city. The aim is to gather Pastors and lay members of Wolverhampton churches together in one place and with unity of heart to see the manifestation of the convicting power of the Holy Spirit in our day.

Connect also brought churches together for a Harvest Festival celebration which took place at Tabernacle Baptist Church in September, as well as arranging a minister’s away day which whilst relatively low numbers attended, enabled us to do life together and enjoy good worship and share fellowship over the Word Pastor Emmanuel brought to us.

Following the decision made in the previous year to seek to engage more with the third sector and collaborate with the local authority, Mr Lambert was part of a small team that partnered with the national ROC Charity to organize a ROC Conversation in Wolverhampton. The ROC Conversation itself was commissioned and paid for by Police Chief Inspector Daryl Lyons and West Midlands Police, within the context of rolling out the CIRV program in Wolverhampton in 2023 (Community Initiative to Reduce Violence). The conversation brought together 250 individuals from across the city including Police, Council, Statutory Agencies, Voluntary and Community Sectors, as well as church leaders, youth leaders, community activists and Christians from across the city. Discussions were led by ROC around the top issues that the city is facing as well as solutions that were proposed from the various tables. All of this was documented and a report produced which has been widely circulated around the city. It is hoped and anticipated that more will be done to Connect churches to the ROC initiatives in Wolverhampton in the coming year.

## **FINANCIAL REVIEW**

CONNECT made a small financial gain during the last financial year, partly owing to the reduction in the activities of the organisation as a result of the ongoing COVID-19 Pandemic. This enabled the organisation to continue to repay the long-term loan made by a generous individual to cover the costs of the Ablaze 18 event. The organisation’s priority at this time is to settle the outstanding amount owed at the earliest possible opportunity.

The majority of the charity’s general fund is made up of donations from churches and individuals who benefit from the activities of the organisation.

The organisation currently has a policy not to have any reserves, as there are no ongoing regular financial commitments of the organisation. Fundraising is undertaken on an event-by-event basis to cover the costs of each event the organisation organizes as and when it is required.
