The Charity maintains a Policies and Procedures Handbook which details
all aspects of Governance and Procedures. Thls Handbook is r8viewed on
a regular basis, most recently in 2025.
Th8 Charty works in partnership with North Yorkshire Council Library
Services which supplies expertise and support to enable the Charity to
deliver a quality library servic8.

The object of the Charity is for the public benefrt, to advance the
education of the residents of Bedale, the residents of North Yorkshire and
other library users through the provision of a communty library facilty
and other services.

Charity Commission guidelines in having due regard to the public benefit
through the delivery of a Library and Information Service to adults and
children. This is achieved through the provision of books, audio books
and DVDS which can b8 borrowed. There is also access through the
Public Computers provided to all th8 online library Services and the
inlernet in addition to a¢ce88 to copying, printing and emailing facilities.

Support for national library initiatives such as th8 Summ8r Reading
Challenge for young children has been given through the organisation of
craft events and aGiivities.
A number of drop-in events have supported the Ilbrary's wider offer to the
community
Health and Wellbeing initiatives have been support8d through displays
and the provision of subject related books.

The Charity is fortunate to have the support of a dedicated and
enthusiastlG group of volunteers from the local community to deliver both
thè cor8 and additional activitie8, as detailed above.
Truste8s are grateful to the Friends of Bedale Communlty Llbrary who
provide further valuable additional funding for the Library.

Several grant applications have been made in 2025126 to provide the
funds necessary for a complete refurbishment and revitalisation of the
premises. A 8um of £20000.00 has already been received from the
National Lottery's Community Fund.

Achievements and performance
The Library has inGreased its opening hours from 20 to 23 hours e8¢h
W88k during the last financial year.
Summary of the main
achlavements of the charity
during the year
In addition to the delivery of the requir8d library and infomiation services
we have had great suc¢e$s when supporting the SummeT Reading
Challenge, a national initiative to encourage reading in the 4 to 11 year
old age group. We have also arranged themed events for children during
school holidays as well 8$ weekly Story Time sessions for pre-school
children. We have also continued to host a number of suc￿sSful visits
from children from local Primary Schools.
The Home Library Information Service has continued with lis fortnightty
deliveries of books, audio books and DVDS to the elderty and
housebound. In some cas8s this is often th8 onty face to face contact that
some of the hous8bound get, other than carers.
We continue to face challenges in this difficult èconomic climate. but
prudent financial management has enabled us to cope with this situation
in th8 knowledge that we have adequate cash reseN8s for the time being
at least.

In order to achieve a degree of flnancial stability in our first year of
operation various Local Authorities, including Parish Councils and other
local organisations provided initial grants and donations to support our
own fund raising initiatives.

Independent examinerfs report to the trustees of Bedale Community Library
I report to the trustees on my examination of the accounts of Bedale Community
Library (the Trust) for the year ended 31 March 2026.
Responslbllltles and basis of report
As the charity trustees of the Trust you are responsible for the preparation of the
accounts in accordance with the requirements of the Charities Act 2011 {'the
Act'l.
I report in respect of my examination of the Trust's accounts carried out under
section 145 of the 2011 Act and in carrying out my examination I have followed
all the appllcable Directions given by the Charity Commission under section
145{5)Ib} of the Act.
Independent examinerfs statement
I have completed my examination. I confirm that no material matters have come
to my attention in connection with the examination giving me cause to believe
that in any material respett:
l. accounting records were not kept in respect of the Trust as required by section
130 of the Act,. or
2. the accounts do not accord with those records.
I have no concerns and have come across no other matters in connection with the
examination to which attention should be drawn in this report in order to enable
a proper understanding of the accounts to be reached.
