Common Change USA continues to assist Common Change UK with remotely managed back office administration functions and will do so until Common Change UK has developed sufficient capacity to self-manage these functions.

Common Change UK is committed to a principle of incurring minimum overhead costs by utilising volunteer time and expertise. In 2021 our overheads were less than 1% of our total turnover.

Section D Achievements and performance

Like all organisations Common Change UK has felt the continued effects of the coronavirus pandemic during 2021. Despite this the charity has continued to develop according to a range of metrics. Some of the highlights include: Two new groups have started, one in Newcastle and one in Exeter. The incoming funds from individual donors held steady this year (down slightly to £17,688 in 2021 from £18,438 in 2020). Gift Aid was received on top. Overall outgoing Generosity has grown slightly (from £7542 in 2020 to £9671 in 2021, an increase of £2129). The average value of an outgoing gift was up from £207 to £236. The number of outgoing gifts from Common Change UK groups was up considerably being 36 in 2021 vs 25 in 2019. However, the average size of gift was down slightly at £271 (previously £293) Some examples of outgoing support included: • Financial support for people suffering loss of income due to illness • Food parcels for families experiencing food poverty • Assistance for Haiti hurricane victims • Transportation support for a refugee • Replacing a stolen laptop • Economical tumble dryer for family in hardship • Help to buy a mobility scooter • Money for medical bill • Purchasing carpets for a family in poor housing • Support for a bereaved family • Support for a flooded family • Financial support for a family in fuel poverty • Christmas gifts for parents & children |
