Overview

Bexhill Amateur Boxing Club remains affiliated to England Boxing the sports national governing body ensuring that the club provides the highest of standards in alignment with the sports regulations, and access to the competition opportunities that the affiliation provides.

Attendance levels have remained consistent with previous years with good levels of attendance across the sessions provided each weekday evening. Varying training sessions provide opportunities for those over 10 years old to learn a skill, improve fitness, or advance into competitive opportunities. To encourage attendance ‘pay-as-you-go’ costs remain low to ensure that the club remains accessible - £3 for under 16 years, and £4 for over 16 years.

Bexhill Amateur Boxing Club is heavily indebted to its team of volunteers operating across various roles to ensure that the club continues to operate effectively with a team of approximately 10 fulfilling roles including Trustees, Committee Members, Coaches, and Safeguarding.

2024-2025 Highlights

In April 2024 the talented female youth boxer was invited to attend the England Boxing talent pathway in recognition of her previous achievements and capability. The talent pathway sees invited boxers from across the country attend the home of GB Boxing at English Institute of Sport in Sheffield - The Lions Den.

Supported by Bexhill coaches Izzy Mitchell trained under the guidance of GB Boxing, and alongside other talented individuals.

May 2024 saw the return of the clubs ‘Home Show’, providing the competitive boxing team to showcase their skills to the local community against boxers from other England Boxing-affiliated clubs from across the region, supported by England Boxing’s officials. The show builds awareness of the club within the local community and enables the club to generate a small amount of revenue from ticket sales.

Later in the month of May members of the volunteer team dedicated their time to redecorate areas of the club to rejuvenate the interior. This was also supported by a local business - CHS Electrical. Their team of electricians volunteered their time and effort to perform some improvements to the club's electrics.

With the close of the 2024 boxing season the clubs annual awards followed in July. The awards continue to provide an opportunity for members of the club and their families to socialise and celebrate the success of the club over the prior season. It also sees multiple awards given out to attendees for their efforts across each of the sessions

With the club's competitive squad active throughout September 2024 saw another great achievement for the club with a senior boxer being crowned Southern Counties champion. Aaron Davies was crowned after multiple bouts in almost as many days against the best boxers from across the region.

Aaron continued to progress through to the national stages of the competition, losing out on a spot in the final with a close fought bout in the semis.

Izzy Mitchell continued the club's success in the 2024-2025 season with a gold medal in the England Boxing National Women's Winter Box Cup. Izzy travelled with volunteer coaches, family and supporters to Leigh, Greater Manchester to participate in the competition at the end of November and once again shone in her category to achieve gold.

There was no winding down in the final month of 2024 as the club held another Home Show once again drawing a great level of support from the local community and providing further competitive opportunities to the clubs competing boxers.

The show received great feedback from those in attendance regarding the quality of the event, talent and sportsmanship on display. The shows also serve as an opportunity to engage with the community and demonstrate what Bexhill Amatuer Boxing Club has to offer, as well as provide inspiration for current and prospective attendees.

Further support from the community was received late in the year with the Sussex Masonical Trust providing the club with 8 brand new punch bags to replace the set of weathered / cracked bags in use. The Sussex Masonical Trust were impressed with the opportunities that the club provides and were keen to support. Trustee Colin Dann popped in to see the bags provided in use.

To close out the year the club's Christmas Party provides an opportunity for the wider club community to celebrate the festive period as the club winds down for a short period. Those attending enjoyed the chance to socialise, take part in a quiz, and gave the younger attendees the opportunity to burn off some energy on a bouncy castle.

With a new year beginning Izzy Mitchell carried her success into 2025 with a Silver Medal in the England Boxing National Amateur Championships held in Rotherham in February. Izzy boxed superbly to progress to the final, losing out to a tough opponent.

In addition to the achievements, and events noted above the club has provided opportunities with a desire to compete with many trips to other England Boxing clubs for sparring opportunities and to learn from other boxers. This has required further support from the volunteer group to travel and provide services to the club outside of the scheduled classes.

There has also been great success in the junior and recreational classes seeing a good level of attendance with those attending enjoying the sport, and benefiting from the fitness aspects associated.

To engage with the community and encourage participation within the sport Bexhill Amateur Boxing Clubs continues to promote itself and celebrate success on social media platforms https://www.instagram.com/bexhillboxingclub/ / https://www.facebook.com/bexhillabc .

Social media generates interest, and enquiries for those wanting to take up boxing for recreation, or with a desire to compete.

The clubs finances have remained stable throughout the financial year with grants and support provided to the club enabling lasting improvements to be made to the club for the benefit of the attendees whilst keeping the clubs balance well above the £5000 reserve limit set.

Independent Examiners Report Independent Examiner's Report to the trustees of Bexhill Amateur Boxing Club

I report to the trustees on my examination of the financial statements of Bexhill Amateur Boxing Club for the year ended 31 March 2025 which comprise the Statement of Financial Activities, the Balance Sheet, the Statement of Cash Flows, and the related notes.

Responsibilities and basis of report

As the charity's trustees you are responsible for the preparation of the financial statements in accordance with the requirements of the Charities Act 2011('the Act'). The trustees consider that an audit is not required for this year under the Charities Act 2011, s.144(2) (the 2011 Act) and that an independent examination is needed. I report in respect of my examination of the charity's financial statements carried out under section 145 of the 2011 Act and in carrying out my examination I have followed all the applicable Directions given by the Charity Commission under section 145(5)(b) of the Act.

Independent examiner's statement

I have completed my examination. I can confirm that no material matters have come to my attention in connection with the examination giving me cause to believe that in, any material respect:

• the financial statements do not comply with the applicable requirements concerning the form and content of the financial statements set out in the Charities (Accounts and Reports) Regulations 2008 other than any requirement that the financial statements give a 'true and fair' view which is not a matter considered as part of an independent examination.

I have no concerns and have come across no other matters in connection with the examination to which attention should be drawn in this report to enable a proper understanding of the financial statements to be reached.
