Trustees Annual Report
Throughout the 2023 - 2024 reporting period Bexhill Amateur Boxing Club (BABC) adhered to its objectives by providing low cost, accessible boxing, and fitness opportunities to the local community. Costs to attendees have remained unchanged with an annual fee of £20, and session costs at £3 for those under 16 years, and £4 for those over 16 years. The low cost in comparison to local gyms offering similar services aims to ensure that the clubs services remain accessible to all.
Ongoing affiliation to the sport’s national governing body, England Boxing ensures the club adheres to the standards set by the body (coaching, safeguarding etc.), whilst also providing access to competition under England Boxing rules alongside other affiliated clubs supported by England Boxing’s network of qualified officials.
During the reporting period BABC has fundraised, and obtained planning permission to extend the clubs premises aiming to improve the facilities, training space, and widen the club’s offerings (see Activities & Achievements below)
Throughout the reporting period the level of attendees has remained consistent across the boxing sessions provided - 10-13 years, recreational boxing 14yrs+, and carded / invited boxers 14yrs+. Recreational boxing has consistently proved to be the most attended session with an average of 20 plus attendees participating within the Tuesday and Thursday classes. This class provides the option for learning, socialising, fitness, and a gateway into competitive boxers for those who have the desire and capability to box safely.
BABC remains supported by a strong, consistent group of dedicated 10 volunteers who provide the necessary supporting roles for the organisation. The roles include Trustees, Committee Members, Coaches, and Safeguarding.
Please reference the below section for an overview of some of BABC’s key activities, and achievements over the reporting period.
Activities and Achievements
Over the 2022 - 2023 season BABC developed a strong senior competitive squad through the structured ‘Carded’ and Invited boxers’ class. The class provides attendees with a desire to compete, the opportunity to train, and learn together, led by four of the club's Level 2 England Boxing coaches.
The competitive squad is pictured in the photo below taken on 9th May, 2023.

BABC hosted their annual Home Show in May 2023 with many clubs in attendance from across the region to compete against the home boxers. The event is hosted in the local Pebsham Community Hub with hundreds of spectators in attendance generating a friendly, bustling small hall boxing atmosphere. The home show provides both motivation for the club's attendees, and interest in the club within the local community.
BABC generates interest in the clubs’ activities, and events via an ongoing social media presence via Instagram and Facebook. An image of the May 2023 Home Show poster is provided below.

Wherever possible BABC aims to enable opportunity to its attendees. In June 2023, the club was approached with interest in a competing boxer to be matched and represent England Boxing in a club show hosted in Bologna, Italy. Club funds were used to enable both the Bexhill coach and boxer to travel to Italy to compete in the event, again providing interest and motivation within and outside of the club.

With the 2022-2023 season closing BABC hosts the clubs’ annual End of Season Awards, where the season's highlights are presented, and attendees from each of the club’s various classes are rewarded for their efforts throughout the season. Awards include Most Dedicated, Most Improved, Best All Round, Boxers Boxer, Junior / Youth / Senior Club Shield and Best Bout. The awards provide the chance for attendees, their friends and family to celebrate and interact as a community.
The club’s social media platforms, and internal communication are used to generate interest in, and attendance to the event.

Moving into the 2023-2024 boxing season BABC boxers progressed within the National Amateur Championships. The competition starts with county level competition (e.g. Sussex), moving into the regional level (e.g. Southern Counties) before the final stages where the county's winners compete against the best in the country with the aim of being the national champion within their weight class.
BABC achieved both a county champion (below right), and a national quarter finalist within the competition (below left) - October 2023.

BABC, supported by local organisations (Chaffin Works, ETMS Highways) enabled five boxers, supported by three coaches, with the opportunity to represent the club at the world's largest international amateur box cup held over three days in Boras, Sweden.
The thrilling competition well represented by both English, and international clubs sees boxers progress through the rounds of the competition in search of a gold medal within their class.
Excellent performances from BABC saw three out of the five boxers awarded with medals - two golds, and one silver.

With great success throughout the first half of the 22-23 season, the club's focus shifted to the club’s annual Christmas party. The event again enables the club's community to gather and celebrate - promoting engagement within the club and its community is fundamental to generating and maintaining the family friendly environment. The promotion for the event can be seen below.

Independent Examiners Report
Independent Examiner's Report to the trustees of Bexhill Amateur Boxing Club
I report to the trustees on my examination of the financial statements of Bexhill Amateur Boxing Club for the year ended 31 March 2024 which comprise the Statement of Financial Activities, the Balance Sheet, the Statement of Cash Flows, and the related notes.
Responsibilities and basis of report
As the charity's trustees you are responsible for the preparation of the financial statements in accordance with the requirements of the Charities Act 2011('the Act'). The trustees consider that an audit is not required for this year under the Charities Act 2011, s.144(2) (the 2011 Act) and that an independent examination is needed. I report in respect of my examination of the charity's financial statements carried out under section 145 of the 2011 Act and in carrying out my examination I have followed all the applicable Directions given by the Charity Commission under section 145(5)(b) of the Act.
Independent examiner's statement
I have completed my examination. I can confirm that no material matters have come to my attention in connection with the examination giving me cause to believe that in, any material respect:
-
the accounting records were not kept in respect of the charity as required by section 130 of the Act; or
-
the financial statements do not accord with those records; or
-
the financial statements do not comply with the applicable requirements concerning the form and content of the financial statements set out in the Charities (Accounts and Reports) Regulations 2008 other than any requirement that the financial statements give a 'true and fair' view which is not a matter considered as part of an independent examination.
I have no concerns and have come across any other matters in connection with the examination to which attention should be drawn in this report to enable a proper understanding of the financial statements to be reached.
