Trustees Annual Report

April 2021 saw Bexhill Amateur Boxing Club (BABC) move to hybrid training sessions towards the end of the pandemic as the gym reopened - sessions were split between indoor and outdoor training dependent on the numbers attending. This approach enabled BABC to continue to provide its service to the full number of attendees wishing to participate.

As the pandemic restrictions came to an end in 2021 the boxing club returned to normal and offered an additional class specifically for female boxers to its schedule alongside the existing sessions for those over the age of 10 years further extending services in alignment with its objectives and to provide further public benefit.

BABC remains affiliated to the sport's national governing body - England Boxing. The affiliation costs the club £220, with an additional £22 for each of the club’s coaches / volunteers totalling approximately £200. The affiliation provides us with many benefits including access to competition between other England Boxing clubs, supported by qualified officials, along with opportunities to box in regional and national level competition. England Boxing also ensure that all its members are held to the highest standards in terms of safeguarding, qualifications, and first aid certification.

To provide accessible services BABC continues to provide low-cost training with session prices ranging from £3-£4. An annual membership fee of £20 is also requested to support club affiliation, and insurance costs.

BABC are looking at options to expand the club by creating a larger training facility. This will enable the club to provide a better quality of service to larger groups at accessible rates. Initial enquiries have been made into architecture and planning permission prior to starting the project in the next couple of years.

Late 2021 saw BABC return to competitive boxing with an entrant in the National Championships who narrowly lost out to the eventual winner of the competition. At the start of 2022 the club returned its focus to competitive boxing alongside recreational boxing, and fitness.

Coaches took those boxers competing and looking to compete, to various clubs across the region for sparring, with clubs also visiting Bexhill. These have seen the club travel as far afield as North London, Hampshire and beyond. Other England Boxing affiliated clubs have regularly travelled to Bexhill from Bognor, Brighton, Eastbourne, and further afield to provide sparring opportunities to our members.

The team of volunteer coaches remains strong with an additional volunteer coach supporting BABC sessions increasing the total number of volunteers to ten. The volunteer staff includes all members of the committee who undertake any supporting administration, the clubs safeguarding office, and coaching team members. As BABC continues to grow the club will look for further volunteers to support growth, and emergent activities required to support the running of the club such as continual fund raising and marketing.

The club’s volunteer policy ensures that all volunteers continue to be subject to the safeguarding and first aid requirements set by England Boxing ensuring a safe environment is maintained.

Financial Review

The financial performance of the club continued to be affected by the tail end of the COVID 19 pandemic as services for the first quarter of the financial year were restricted. Following the lifting of Covid restrictions the club was able to undertake more activities incurring higher travel and other related costs.

Charity funds remain stable with the inclusion of accountancy fees required to support the charity's operation.

Reserves Policy

BABC’s committee has agreed to hold approximately £5,000 in reserves. Any funds over that level will be used to invest into new equipment, or the maintenance of existing equipment as required.

Governing Document

The BABC continues to be controlled by its governing document, a constitution, and operates as a charitable incorporated organisation.

BABC also remains affiliated to the sport's national governing body - England Boxing and is therefore bound by its rules and regulations. Further information regarding England Boxing can be found at www.englandboxing.org.

The recruitment and appointment of new trustees.
