Annual General Meeting Sunday 10[th] August 2025 12pm
Welcome by chairman John Ferris.
– Treasurer report Sukhbir Tandy
Introduction to the different types of funds. Explains what the differences is between General Fund, Trustees Fund, Evangelical Fund and Building Fund.
Reminder about Gift Aid Scheme. Option to join scheme and reclaim tax. Outline of Balances sheet items and pointed out income from Gift Aid.
Comment that me, Sukhbir Tandy am retiring and Enoch and his wife will be taking over next year’s income.
Query from Betty Virk to check any more brough over from Ladies Friendly hour income. Apparently is 0 but Sukhbir will double check.
Reuben asked about the expenses for Church Child Policy and Copyright fees on balance sheet. Answer was given to this by Sukhbir.
Sam asked about the “Gas” item which in included in the double fuel provider of energy. As a side note slightly higher than last year as during the work period we were using electricity in the annex. John Tandy inquired about input from Michael Buckeridge who audited the Accounts.
Sukhbir explained how the process was checked, some suggestions came up with one being there needing to be a pool of people checking the money. A minor review of the process suggested however his feedback was positive and was generally happy with things.
In the next balance sheet, the Trustees Fund will no longer be used.
Enoch comment, grateful for guidance and understanding being given to him by Sukhbir. He queried where the Balance sheet information was published. Sukhbir confirmed it’ll be published on the charity commissioner website however where the charity is supported doesn’t need to be shared, only a cut down version of the expenses detail don’t gets published.
Building Work report David Thorp
The bulk of the work is complete, but there are jobs to finish off.
Separated into “Jobs” and “Projects”
Jobs: gutters rear. sign, gates, rods, tarmac, replace old doors, store cupboard, patchwork to roof, carparks need sweeping, frame for banners in car park, outside lighting and painting of annex. Project: Plan ahead for Kitchen refurbishment, toilet block roof, corner of kitchen needs underpinning, Public address system need to installing, ladies toilet wall needs reenforcing, and both toilet areas need upgrading. Store cupboards need improving. Annex itself needs replacing. Note that much work is needed. £13,000 already spent from rendering.
Betty Virk asked about the boundary query which has been resolved. Yes. When we excavated we found it had lined up correctly to measurements.
John Thorp: queried cost of kitchen refurbishment. David replied regarding work, subsidence, and underpinning and solid floor, maybe around £15,000. Similarly to ladies toilet wall needs to find a way to stop walls pulling out, also the roof repairs costs.
New Building committee has been agreed now, Sukhbir, David, Enoch and Christy will be looking at what needs to be done meeting on regular bases.

Bible was read from 1Co_15:29 “Else what shall they do which are baptized for the dead, if the dead rise not at all? why are they then baptized for the dead?”
Commented strange verse, people can be baptise for the dead? But if we study it the apostle is saying that “what is the point of people take the place of the dead if the dead don’t rise again?” Soldiers taken to war, two die, but two take their place. The situation on our register this year. Noted that the figure has remained the same. They took courage from the fallen members in the last few months and the two new believers added into fellowship. So remaining 49 members currently listed.
Open Air meeting John Thorp
Those going out regularly have been, John & Jacob Chelliah, Sukhbir Tandy, myself, Alan Turnbull and Steve Cook from open air mission. (he is busy often can’t come) Ian Randle has moved away from area. Prayer for the work. I help on 1[st] Saturday of the month other weeks I now help my dad. Laborers are few, prayer the Lord will raise up more. Area we’re in is next to redevelopment work which has funneled area for people to walk past us, a blessing in some ways. However, opposition groups are down there, healing, muslin groups, charismatics. But we have wonderful opportunities more recently tracks are taken. Monday afternoons seems to have more conversation. There are lots of students, two universities, wonderful opportunities. If you can spare half-an-hour pop on down and support us.
Sunday searchers older group Deleen Tandy read by John Tandy
At 4.50 each week the children sing in the back room. The older group number around 7-8, we sing children songs and have lessons from the bible. A few of the older children are attending Leicester camp running this month. Please pray for children spiritually at the camp. Sunday searchers David Thorp
Numbers in annex are fairly consistent usually 15-18 children. We only get about 40-45 minutes with them. We go over an account from the bible with pictures and the location. Activities, recap and epilogue at the end. New faces this year, grateful for helpers. Question. Betty one girl who is now 15-16 returned last week by herself to thank us for the time she had here. Complementary.
Friday Young people by Enoch
Started April, run every 2 weeks, 7.00 – 8.30, I support David in the program. Teaching children in the truths of the bible. What is the character of God. Life from a biblical perspective. Truths in this age.
Ice breaker activities, games, video, getting involved, snacks, concluding with epilogue and prayer. We covered topic like existence and the character of God, how to read the bible, historicity of Jesus. Planning to remain on similar topics. Prayer points that children would ask about the truth and be able to face questions at school in education system. Pray God would given wisdom to what is suitable for the children. Appropriate topics given. Outings are planned. We had a nice campfire discussion at David’s last month. Excited that children are learning new things and opening up with activities we’ve planned.
Question: How many do you get? 6-7 and their parents bring them along.
Display Bible 1 reports John Tandy

Display Bible 2 reports Sukhbir Tandy
Godwin and Peter turn pages of Bible in city Centre. It is a witness for the Lord. If you’d like a key to turn page at this or Canley Bible let us know.
Humber Court John Ferris
Over 55s retirement home, we visit every 2 weeks at 7pm on Sunday, we preach gospel, favorite hymns, core of 5 regulars. We are always concerned with low numbers but considering that the home has 50 we have 10% along. Prayer door stays open, numbers increase and for Deleen the main point of contact and thankful for those who come to speak. AOB
John Ferris – can we sing hymns all the way through? Sing more.
Betty Virk – In October on Saturday we’re planning to start Ladies meeting at 2pm with same format, dates to follow with John Ferrris.
A point about children running around. There was a small accident. Be mindful. Juda hurt
himself. Both need to be recording in accident book under health and safety. Discourage children coming into kitchen in general as its small.
Reply, Sukhbir- we have discussed this point in last elders meeting. John Tandy has plan to appoint someone each week to oversee to ensure safety.
Sukhbir Tandy – no more zoom on Thursday, we’re planning on joint bible study and prayer at the hall.
John Thorp – are people looking at QR code on gatepost. David Thorp – yes, since June last year 200 people saw the first one, since 2 weeks when it was last changed 20 people have looked at the new one. We’re next we’re planning gospel verses on the next gatepost code with a code to the bible in their language. We are still getting request for Bibles at least 90 following the Seed Sowers outreach.
John Ferris. Any further business. No.
Meeting closed at 12.45
Objects
The Charitable purposes of the Charity shown in our Articles of Association are:
To advance the Christian faith, through the spread of the Gospel of Jesus Christ, throughout the local community and the world.
The primary aims of the charity are to fulfil the role of a Christian church in the Hillfields area of Coventry and to provide help to others in promoting the Christian faith in the United Kingdom and overseas.
THE CHURCH: ITS AIMS AND OBJECTIVES
The Church is not a building, but a gathering of ordinary people of different ages and backgrounds, whose lives have been changed by Jesus Christ, the Son of God.
The New Testament model for the Church is a community of people, properly taught and cared for, whom by loving and serving Jesus Christ, were also committed to love and care for each other and to bring a blessing to the area in which they lived.
4
Gospel Hall Church Street Church Street, Elders and Members are committed to the restoration of those New Testament principles. The vision is to see the people of Hillfields area to come into this experience of knowing Jesus as their Lord, Saviour and friend.
The mission statement of the Church is: - "Reaching people for Jesus, helping and encouraging each other to become committed and effective disciples of Christ"
Directions relating to the charitable trust are made by the Elders/Trustees in consultation with the Church Members, who are responsible for governing the life and teaching of the church. The Trustees and Elders make day to day decisions on expenditure and activities run by volunteers responsible in the church, with the finances being monitored by the Trustees.
It is the work of every member of the church, and volunteers that will make the difference in achieving its great commission. This is done by demonstrating and sharing God's love amongst the people they interact with every day; by praying, visiting the sick and others in need, being involved in discipling others, public teaching and worship, and also in administration. The members provide the financial resources of the church and their private assets and equipment are regularly used in the work of the church. Much of this work is done privately, without recognition, and the hours and value of that time cannot be quantified.
The Gospel Hall Church Street does not have any paid employees; all the activities that are provided by the church to the local community are undertaken and provided by volunteers, most of whom are church members.
THE YEAR: ITS OBJECTIVES AND ACHIEVEMENTS
It has again been through God's wonderful provision of practical and financial support that we have again been blessed during the year 2024-2025 and great achievements have been made possible. We have so much to thank God for, Praise His name.
During the year ended 31 March 2025 the ways the church sought to achieve the calling of Christ upon it and its charitable purposes for the public benefit have been as follows: a) Regular weekly activities:
We have continued to see an encouraging increase in numbers at our regular Sunday Morning meeting, Family service and Thursday Bible study and pray.
b) Fulfilling the objectives in teaching, preaching and showing practical care in the community: - It has been great to make new friends who come and meet with us at our Sunday Family Service and midweek activities of pray and bible study and so good to see some ladies from community come along to join the ladies at their Ladies friendly Hour on Mondays which we hope to continue.
On the third Sunday once a month, we provide a Family Tea that is well attended by a number of residents from the community, it is open to all ages. Following the tea, we usually have an evangelistic message. Some of our regular attendees have been really encouraged by what they hear and thoroughly enjoy both the tea and talk. There are regularly 25 - 30 people attending the tea each month.
c) Impacting the next generation:-
During the Sunday Family service, children leave for their own activities. There are up to 18 children aged 7-12. As a church we feel it important to teach young children what is right and wrong, how to mix and share with others and how to respect adults. All the teaching is based on the word of God. Good moral teaching at a young age should help prevent anti-social behaviour in their later life.
We have also continued to support the poor families in our community by send finances to Coventry City Mission, who are doing a great work in the community
5
The Trustees have complied with the duty in section 4 of the Charities Act 2006 to have due regard to the public benefit guidance published by the Charity Commission in July 2021.
FINANCIAL REVIEW
GRANT MAKING POLICY
We don’t make grants to other organisations. The Trustees on the basis of need and fulfilment of the charitable objectives do consider making gifts to external organisations and individuals as a need arises. All visiting Speakers are offered money to cover their expenses; some more recently have been asking to have the money put in our general fund.
RISK MANAGEMENT
The church is insured through Congregational and General through their Churches Policy.
Notes
We have been saving for a long time so that we could upgrade the building The building work started November 2023 and was completed in April 2024 so we have spent a lot of money upgrading the building but it has been all worthwhile
We have had special offerings of money from different people in the church and various organizations have helped us
We need to particularly be thankful to Brass Tacks who supplied willing workers free of charge to help us in the building work. We are still upgrading the building as funds enables us to do so.
STATEMENT OF TRUSTEES RESPONSIBILITIES
Charity law requires the trustees to prepare accounts for each financial year that give a true and fair view of the state of affairs of the Charity and of the profit and loss of the Charity for that period. In preparing these accounts, the trustees are required to: -
-
Select suitable accounting policies and then apply them consistently.
-
Make adjustments and estimates that are reasonable and prudent.
-
Prepare the accounts on the going concern basis unless it is inappropriate to presume that the Charity will continue in operation. The trustees are responsible for keeping adequate accounting records, which disclose with reasonable accuracy at any time the financial position of the Charity and to enable them to ensure that the accounts comply with the Charities Acts. They are also responsible for safeguarding the assets of the Charity and hence for taking reasonable steps for the prevention and detection of fraud and other irregularities. The trustees confirm that the accounts comply with current statutory requirements and those of the Charity's trust deed.

The church building and land are owned by the charity. In view of the length of time since purchase (1928 and 1975), it is the decision of the trustees to not include a valuation within the Balance sheet. It is noted here that during 2023-25, expenditure to the amount of £200,000 was paid for rebuilding and renovation of the building. While adding long term value to the building, expenditure was accounted for during those years.
