VIRTUOSI GUS BAND TRUSTEES ANNUAL REPORT - CONTINUED FOR THE YEAR ENDED 31ST DECEMBER 2022

Achievements and Performance

2022 saw the band return to "normal duties" following the end of Covid restrictions, with 16 engagements throughout the year. These were a mix of competition appearances, CD recordings, charity appearances and concert performances.

Competition appearances were as follows:

The Band also organised several concerts locally around Northamptonshire and appeared across the country, by invitation, at places such as Crawley, Congleton, Leicester, and Kettering. The band also supported the Northampton Music Performing Arts Trust at their brass band showcase in March, another local music charity involved in the development of young musicians.

During the year the band made a change to the conducting team with the appointment of Chris Bond (Resident Musical Director) and Dr David Thornton (Professional Conductor). The band's playing personnel continue to change slowly, and with the exception of the Soprano Cornet seat, all positions remain filled. The playing standard of the band is still maintained at the highest level and the current players are all committed and dedicated to the future of brass banding.

FUTURE PLANS AND OBJECTIVES

Mission

To recruit into the band the finest brass band players available.

To develop young players to ensure continuity of top-class musicians.

Corporate aims

To run the Band ethically and responsibly, organising income streams from performance and merchandise sales so that the longterm future of the band is secured.

To present the band at public concerts where the audiences hear music that thrills and entertains them.

To enter the band at brass band music competitions so that they can test their musical skills against other leading bands. To organise workshops where the skills of the players are used to inspire and encourage young brass players. To promote the band throughout the UK and Internationally so that the band is invited to perform at prestigious concert halls and arenas.
