Charity Information
Likkle Swimmers was created for the public benefit of a rural community on the south coast of Jamaica called Treasure Beach. Its purpose is to provide free swimming lessons to children aged 4+, and recently adults. Likkle Swimmers successfully completed its first 3 month programme in June 2017- September 2017 teaching a total of 87 children to swim. In 2018, Likkle Swimmers was open and available to children for 6 months and within that time, 183 children were taught which included children from the local nursery and secondary school. In 2019, 150 children and adults were taught over a 2 month period. 2020 was challenging in that the COVID environment restricted our program so the changing rooms were started and finished in 2021 in time for us to find a 3 week window in pandemic to teach over 150 children. We truly hope that hope in 2022 we can continue to build our programme and increase these numbers even more.

Likkle Swimmers Objective
Likkle Swimmers is created for the public benefit of a rural community on the south coast of Jamaica called Treasure Beach by providing free swimming lessons to children.
The purpose of Likkle Swimmers is to provide access to a local swimming pool for children where they will be taught from a program designed specifically for their age group. The children will not only learn a skill that will save lives, but in doing so will also improve their self-confidence and independence, thereby benefiting the wider community. The program is being extended to accommodate adults when demand exists.

Trustee Statement
2021 was another challenging year for Likkle Swimmers as the pandemic continued to inhibit our activities. But we took important steps to consolidate our position, using the time to strengthen the charity and its relationship with the people we serve in Jamaica.
The construction of the changing room has been completed, giving us a permanent presence in Treasure Beach. We are proud to have become a part of the fabric of society there, and the new changing room celebrates that. Just as importantly, we’ve maintained and continued to support our regular set of local swimming teachers, who have grown up with the charity, and are now experienced teachers and impressive ambassadors for Likkle Swimmers.
We also started a relationship with another UK-based charity, Swim Tayka. Swim Tayka have a great deal of experience of international swimming programmes and of fund-raising - and are connected with international organisations like the UN, allowing us to tap into new sources of revenue, sponsorship and expertise. We were delighted that they approved of our existing programme, and look forward to working with them to enhance our operation.
2021 has been a valuable year, in which Likkle Swimmers’ has grown deep roots and developed important new relationships, while sustaining its core activity: the promise of free swimming lessons for Jamaican kids.

Financial Review
1st January 2021 to 31st December 2021
Opening cash balance
The opening cash balances as at 1st January 2021 stood at £42,343.99.
At the end of the financial year 2021 Likkle Swimmers held surplus cash of £26,828.77 spread across 3 separate Lloyds Bank Accounts split as follows:
-
Treasurers Current Account - £757.87
-
Instant Access Account - £4,000.16
-
32 DAY TERM Account - £22,070.74
These funds were carried forward into the next reporting period and will form the basis for funding the 2022 Swim Campaign.
We aim to hold a minimum of £500.00 in INSTANT access accounts with any surplus funds to be held on interest bearing deposit with our current bankers.
Income
In 2021 we had a net expenditure versus income of £15,515.22
Our main sources of income were again dramatically reduced in 2021 due to the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic which significantly reduced our corporate funding as well as other fundraising activities. Smaller personal donations were the main contributor and we were fortunate to be buffered by previous years donations. This enabled us to undertake the final construction of the Changing Room facilities at the Sports Park in Treasure Beach alongside the public swimming pool that Likkle Swimmers utilises. The breakdown of the major income components can be seen below:
-
Individual Donations & Gift Aid – £894.52
-
Gift Aid - £25
-
Bank Interest – £9.16
Expenditure
Our expenditure was considerably less than 2020 and in line with our normal spend. We did deliver a shortened Swim Program during the summer when an opportune break in Covid-19 regulations allowed which accounted for nearly a third of the spend in 2021.
£6,819 was further spent on the changing rooms and are now in a completed state under the maintenance of BREDS the non-profit organization administering the sports park. The other major spend was relating to travel for the 2 volunteers (Charlotte & Beccy) who travelled to support, re-engage & re assess the local swim teachers ahead of the free to swim program. There are various other items such as printing, finance charges, public liability insurance and website fees which are all considered within the normal course of business for the charity.
In summary the charity remains in good health but we will not be complacent as we look to secure and sustain the future of the program. To this extent we will be targeting a cost neutral position in 2022 and will seek further funding opportunities through our partnership with Swim Tayka and by encouraging local involvement in fund raising.

Dear Friends,
After covid having affected our plans for 2020, and at first being a little disappointed at not running a program, we still feel pretty proud that we were able to complete the amazing changing rooms by the pool, and the extra time allowed us to help create even bigger and better future plans.
In 2021, when we thought things might mean we were going into a second year of no swimming, we managed to run a 4 week summer program! Throughout August 2021, we managed to teach 156 children, an amazing start back after covid that was well received by the community. We refreshed the teachers in their swim teaching, which involved spending a couple of days back in the pool practicing before lessons began, and also re looking over the theory of swimming and why we teach what we teach! This was really key to getting the team spirit back after such a long time off, making sure that everybody was on the same page with our goals, as well as making sure that the safety in the pool was at a really high standard!
and we felt like we were doing our part for the community to keep everybody safe. The children were incredible as always to adapt.
It was great to see so many old faces back at swimming this year, and even though we had slightly less new starters than usual due to the anxiety around covid, we had a really successful summer doing what we loved again; providing free swimming lessons to the community of Treasure Beach, and what a warm welcome we received!
We also began a strategic partnership with Swim Tayka who are a nonprofit organization and with whom we hope to be working with in 2022. They have similar goals to Likkle Swimmers by providing free swimming lessons and drowning prevention education to children who live along the earths open waters: rivers, lakes and oceans. We hope to host volunteers from Swim Tayka in Treasure Beach for the first-time next year so they can share their knowledge and swim teaching experience with both the UK team and the teachers in Jamaica. 2022 looks to be all set for us to run our free to swim program in both April and the summer, in order to reach as many children as possible. We can’t wait to see what the next year will bring!
We had to make a few changes to our program to make sure that we kept high hygiene standards during covid, so this was all new for us to learn. This involved providing masks for our drivers and all of the children they picked up, making sure the children showered before and after lessons, sanitizing their hands on arrival, as well as testing everybody’s temperature within the pool area. This took a little extra time, and we therefore lost out on teaching time for each lesson, but it meant that parents and families felt comfortable sending their children,

Junior started as a lifeguard in 2017 and has shown a great passion for teaching. It was Junior who made Charlotte realise that we should train local residents as swim teachers.
Dajay has grown in confidence so much as a teacher since he started. He is really talented at one-to-one teaching when our students needs that extra support with confidence or with learning a new stroke.
Connie has the most energy, always laughing and always the loudest! Connie is excellent with our smallest swimmers and at playing games, and making everything lots of fun!
