Chairman Report 1st February 2022 to 2nd February 2023

Ollies Heroes is an independent Charity that supports children under the age of 16 who have been diagnosed with a cancer in the East of England.

The current Board of Trustees have been in position for just over 7 years now The Charity has found a settled place in the local community. We have discussed our positions and all are not only happy to remain in place but feel this is the best option for the charity particularly with the COVID 19 pandemic. The board have established an organised charity in terms of operation and financially we are organised and in a strong position. We believe we have a very strong Board of Trustees in place which each operate to their own strengths.

As the COVID-19 pandemic settled we were able to slowly and safely resume normal operations, We were again able to hold our annual cake sale which is our biggest fundraising event of the year, along with our grand raffle, which we are lucky enough to continue to be supported by Potters Leisure resorts. For this we cant thank them enough. We also were able to continue in partnership with another Charity Topcats able to host our summer ball which as always was a hugely popular night. I am pleased to report we are able to include the funds raised from this year as well as last year in the accounts. (These were not released in enough time the previous year to be included in the accounts)

Our costs were only £24, to a local graphic designer to print some posters for the cake sale. We are fortunate to be supported by some wonderful local business’s who have helped cover costs such as printing.

As we were able to hold some fundraising events again this year we reached out to or partners at Addenbrooke's and Clic Sargent and advised them it is business as usual and as can be seen from the accounts we had our second busiest year with a total of 56 grants being made this year bringing the total number of grants the charity has made to 187

As the chairman and Ollies Dad I am incredibly proud how despite the difficult circumstances over the last couple of years we have managed to turn the fundraising around again, particularly as people are still nervous about tending populated events. Whilst the fundraising has gone well I predict difficult times ahead, as the referrals for support continue to poor in. We may need to look at alternative revenue streams in order to keep us functioning and supporting as many families in need as possible

We still aim to turn around applications within a week (normally within 2 days)

We are particularly proud of our local community and there ongoing support Ollies Heroes is a well known charity and much respected which means the world to us.

Regards

Jamie Gray (Chairman)
