Chairman Report 2nd February 2020 to 1[st] February 2021

Ollies Heroes is an independent Charity that supports children under the age of 16 who have been diagnosed with a cancer in the East of England.

The current Board of Trustees have been in position for just over 5 years now The Charity has found a settled place in the local community. We have discussed our positions and all are not only happy to remain in place but feel this is the best option for the charity particularly with the COVID 19 pandemic. The board have established an organised charity in terms of operation and financially we are organised and in a strong position. We believe we have a very strong Board of Trustees in place which each operate to their own strengths.

After such a strong performance in 2019/2020 it was always going to be hard to maintain the pace on the fundraising side of the operation. This was then compounded by the COVID-19 pandemic, with all the lock downs and restrictions we were unable to host our main fundraising events this year. We have had the uncomfortable discussions about scaling back both the fundraising and donations activities of the charity, these are made very difficult due to the pandemic and its effects.

Our costs remain minimal. The only expenditure being a small deposit to secure a band for the summer ball which we were unable to host but the deposit has been moved to retain the band for the next event.

We started the year with numerous grants but as the pandemic took its effects we realised that we were quickly going to run out of funds without being able to fundraise, after many discussions we contacted our partners at Addenbrookes and Clic Sargent and advised them that we would only be able to support the families in most need. So we could maximise our impact. Whilst we sympathise that all these families are in need from personal experience we know that some families struggle to exist during these times. As restrictions lift we will endeavour to scale up our fundraising operations and return to a more normal status. We still supported 13 families this year bringing the total number of grants the charity has made to 129

We are pleased with the amount of families we have been able to support during these critical times. We still aim to turn around applications within a week (normally within 2 days)

We are particularly proud of our local community and there ongoing support Ollies Heroes is a well known charity and much respected which means the world to us.

Regards

Jamie Gray (Chairman)
