Trustees’ Annual Report for the period

From 1 September 2023 to 31 August 2024

Charity name: Rural Schools Water Project

Charity registration number: 1170858

Objectives and Activities

The purposes of Rural Schools Water Project as set out in its governing document are:

For the public benefit, to relieve poverty and suffering in any part of the world through:

1. Ensuring availability and sustainable management of water and sanitation for all, in particular, but not exclusively, in rural schools and surrounding communities;

2. Promoting healthy lives and raising awareness and understanding of physical and mental health wellbeing for all at all ages;

3. Ensuring inclusive and equitable quality education and promoting lifelong learning opportunities for all;

4. Achieving food security and improved nutrition and promoting sustainable agriculture, and;

  1. Promoting the reduction and elimination of inequality, and in particular gender inequality affecting women and girls living in poverty.

The charity’s main activities in relation to those purposes were:

Throughout the year the structure of the board of trustees was altered to maintain compliance with the requirements of third parties. The board accepted the resignations of Baaldesh Singh, Kimberley Ducimo and Sharon Akech.

The board of trustees was informed on very short notice that our bankers required notarised documentation for trustees with non-British citizenship. Failing to provide this documentation would have resulted in the charity being de-banked. It was impracticable to provide the documentation, and the board accepted the resignations of Sharon Akech and Kimberley Ducimo.

Baaldesh Singh tendered his resignation from the board of trustees after becoming aware of the policies of his employer, an international law firm, which preclude trusteeships.

The trustees have regard to the guidance issued by the Charity Commission on public benefit.
