| The Greater Manchester Somali Community Association (GMSCA) continued to provide a range of services for the benefit of the local community throughout the year. Our activities included providing information, advice and guidance (AIG) to young people, families and members of the wider community on matters relating to education, employment, training, health and access to local services. This support helped individuals make informed decisions, improve their opportunities and access appropriate services. We provided information and practical assistance to families with additional support needs, including families caring for children and young people with autism and other special educational needs. This assistance helped families access relevant services, support networks and resources. Through the GMSCA Foodbank, we distributed food parcels to low- income individuals and families experiencing financial hardship across Manchester, helping to reduce food insecurity and support vulnerable members of the community. We also operated a Somali Supplementary School in Manchester, providing Somali language classes alongside support in core curriculum subjects. This promoted educational achievement, cultural awareness, language development and community cohesion among children and young people. |
