3. Project Reports
Project Amtoil
Amtoil village, in Biswanath, Sylhet, is facing an extraordinary challenge. Out of a population of 5,500, nearly 500 people, most of them children, are living with disabilities from birth. This is one of the highest concentrations of disability recorded in a single village in Bangladesh.
The community struggles with an unhygienic and unsafe environment. Basic necessities such as tube-wells and sanitary toilets are scarce, leaving families vulnerable to further health risks. To improve their quality of life, there is an urgent need for proper housing, safe drinking water, nutritious food, medical care, and rehabilitation support.
Rescue Aid Trust has so far:
-
Built 14 wheelchair-accessible homes.
-
Installed 12 Water Hubs for clean water and sanitation.
-
Provided nutritious food, medical care, and rehabilitation support.
These interventions are improving the lives of vulnerable families, offering hope and dignity.

Darussunnah Masjid Project
Amtoil is a remarkable village in Bishwanath, Sylhet, where around 500 children and adults live with disabilities. At the heart of the village stands Darussunnah Masjid , the only mosque serving the community. Sadly, despite its 50-year history, no efforts had been made to improve or develop the mosque until recently.
Recognising this need, Rescue Aid Trust , in partnership with Channel S , launched an initiative to rebuild and expand the mosque. Fundraising began during last year’s Ramadan, and Alhamdulillah, thanks to your generous support, construction work is now underway. The foundation and piling stages have already been completed.

Winter Project
Winter remains a life-threatening season for vulnerable people in Bangladesh, particularly children, the elderly, and people with disabilities. Each year, hundreds lose their lives due to inadequate clothing and shelter.
Rescue Aid Trust has distributed warm clothing and blankets to families in Sylhet, Moulvibazar, and Sunamganj, helping them endure the harsh conditions.
Project pictures:
Flood Response Project
Approximately five million people have been affected by severe flooding across the districts of Feni, Cumilla, Noakhali, Lakshmipur, Chittagong, Rangamati, and Moulvibazar.
Rescue Aid Trust is on the ground, mobilising dedicated teams to assess urgent needs and deliver life-saving support to the most vulnerable communities. Our emergency response includes:
-
Hot meals and dry food for immediate relief
-
Basic medicines to address pressing health needs
-
Long-lasting food parcels to sustain families in the weeks ahead
Our priority is to reach those in desperate need quickly and effectively, ensuring they have the essentials to survive and begin rebuilding their lives after this devastating crisis.

3. Accounting policies (continued)
Incoming resources
All incoming resources are included in the statement of financial activities when entitlement has passed to the charity; it is probable that the economic benefits associated with the transaction will flow to the charity and the amount can be reliably measured. The following specific policies are applied to particular categories of income:
-
income from donations or grants is recognised when there is evidence of entitlement to the gift, receipt is probable and its amount can be measured reliably.
-
legacy income is recognised when receipt is probable and entitlement is established.
-
income from donated goods is measured at the fair value of the goods unless this is impractical to measure reliably, in which case the value is derived from the cost to the donor or the estimated resale value. Donated facilities and services are recognised in the accounts when received if the value can be reliably measured. No amounts are included for the contribution of general volunteers.
-
income from contracts for the supply of services is recognised with the delivery of the contracted service. This is classified as unrestricted funds unless there is a contractual requirement for it to be spent on a particular purpose and returned if unspent, in which case it may be regarded as restricted.
Resources expended
Expenditure is recognised on an accruals basis as a liability is incurred. Expenditure includes any VAT which cannot be fully recovered, and is classified under headings of the statement of financial activities to which it relates:
-
expenditure on raising funds includes the costs of all fundraising activities, events, noncharitable trading activities, and the sale of donated goods.
-
expenditure on charitable activities includes all costs incurred by a charity in undertaking activities that further its charitable aims for the benefit of its beneficiaries, including those support costs and costs relating to the governance of the charity apportioned to charitable activities.
-
other expenditure includes all expenditure that is neither related to raising funds for the charity nor part of its expenditure on charitable activities.
All costs are allocated to expenditure categories reflecting the use of the resource. Direct costs attributable to a single activity are allocated directly to that activity. Shared costs are apportioned between the activities they contribute to on a reasonable, justifiable and consistent basis.

Independent Examiner's Report to the Trustees of RESCUE AID TRUST
Year ended 31 December 2024
I report on the financial statements for the year ended 31 December 2024, which comprise the statement of financial activities, statement of financial position and the related notes.
Respective responsibilities of trustees and examiner
The trustees are responsible for the preparation of the financial statements. The trustees consider that an audit is not required for this year under section 144(2) of the Charities Act 2011 (the 2011 Act) and that an independent examination is needed.
It is my responsibility to:
-
examine the accounts under section 145 of the 2011 Act;
-
to follow the procedures laid down in the general Directions given by the Charity Commission under section 145(5)(b) of the 2011 Act; and
-
to state whether particular matters have come to my attention.
Basis of independent examiner's report
My examination was carried out in accordance with the general Directions given by the Charity Commission. An examination includes a review of the accounting records kept by the charity and a comparison of the accounts presented with those records. It also includes consideration of any unusual items or disclosures in the accounts, and seeking explanations from you as trustees concerning any such matters. The procedures undertaken do not provide all the evidence that would be required in an audit and consequently no opinion is given as to whether the accounts present a 'true and fair view' and the report is limited to those matters set out in the next statement.
Independent examiner's statement
I have completed my examination. I confirm that no matters have come to my attention in connection with the examination giving me cause to believe: 1. accounting records were not kept in respect of the Company as required by section 386 of the 2006 Act; or I have no concerns and have come across no other matters in connection with the examination to which attention should be drawn in this report in order to enable a proper understanding of the accounts to be reached
