Message from the Chairperson
Respected Patrons, Advisors, Trustees and Members,
It gives me immense pleasure to welcome you all to Nepalese British Community-UK (NBC-UK), a UK based registered charity. As you all are aware, NBC-UK, is committed to empowering communities by carrying out various charitable events and activities. Our main objective is to promote socio-cultural inclusion by celebrating cultural events, creating awareness among communities in the UK and provide grants to communities/schools that are in need in Nepal and rest of the world. During the year, 2024, we organised Beach Trip, celebrated Teej, organised a Webinar to on Community Cancer Awareness and Deausi/Bhailo. We are proud to be running the ‘Healthy Living through Zumba and Yoga’ project, funded by National Lottery since September. This Project will be run until end May 2025.
Over the past 15 years, we have been supporting vulnerable individuals, helping to improve education, promoting mental health and cancer awareness in communities and donated blood for NHS. During our journey, our continuous efforts have brought us to today’s NBC-UK, a very reputed charity. These successes would not have been possible without your unwavering help and support.
I would like to thank you all, our Donors and Sponsors who have directly and indirectly helped us to get to the stage where we are now. I would also like to sincerely urge all of you to actively participate in all our events and activities and let’s unite and achieve our goals and be proud of ourselves to be part of such a charity of hight repute.
Finally, I look forward to continuing working with you all in order to achieve the goal of ‘Empowering Communities’.

Structure, Governance and Management
Statement of Trustees’ responsibilities
The Board of Trustees present their statutory report with the financial statements of NBC-UK for the year ended 31 December 2024. The report has been prepared in accordance with Part 8 of Charities Act 2011. The annual accounts have been prepared in accordance with the accounting policies set out on financial statements and comply with the charity ’s constitution and applicable laws relating to small charities and with the Statement of Recommended Practice on Accounting and Reporting by Charities (FRS 102) (effective 01 January 2015) including update Bulletin 2. Governance and administration. The governing document of the charity is the Constitution of NBC-UK. The charity is administered by a Board of Trustees for the purposes of Charity legislation. The terms of office for Trustees is 3 years and can be reappointed by members and must be confirmed by the membership at the next AGM. The same process applies for new Trustees. No external bodies have the power to appoint Trustees, and members are ultimately responsible for the Charity. The names of Trustees who served during the year are included on page 3 above. A special resolution was passed at the AGM in March 2024 by a majority of members of the NBC-UK to amend the Constitution. These continue to be reviewed annually. Good governance and leadership are essential for the success of the NBC-UK and Board of Trustees is committed to following the principles and recommended practice in the Charity Governance Code (as recommended by the Charity Commission, www.charitygovernancecode.org/en). These principles are organisational purpose, leadership, integrity, diversity, openness and accountability, Board effectiveness, decision-making, risk and control. The Trustees are elected at the Annual General Meeting. Each Trustee is appointed for a term of three years and must be members of the NBCUK. Trustees are responsible for preparing the Report of the Trustees and the Financial Statements in accordance with applicable law and United Kingdom Accounting Standards (United Kingdom Generally Accepted Accounting Practice).
In preparing these financial statements, the Trustees are required to:

Observe the method and principles in the Charities Statement of Recommended Practice (SORP)

Make judgements and estimates that are reasonable and prudent.

Prepare the financial statements on the going concern basis unless it is inappropriate to presume that the charity will continue in business. The Trustees are responsible for keeping proper accounting records that comply with the Companies Act 2006. Induction and training of Trustees
A formal induction process is provided for all new Trustees. The programme includes:

Familiarisation with the role of NBC-UK, the structure, governance and charitable objectives as well as the role and responsibilities of being a charity Trustee.

Regular updates at Trustees’ meetings for all Trustees to enhance their understanding and to update them on developments in corporate governance. The Trustees may delegate any of their powers to sub-committees.
Delivering Public Benefit
NBC-UK is a charity committed to support communities in the UK and worldwide in education and emergency relief along celebrating Nepali culture among Nepali communities living in the UK. It also works in partnership with other organisations to deliver public benefit. Trustees of NBC-UK have considered the guidance published by the Charity Commission and concluded that the NBC-UK’s core activities – as described in its constitution – satisfactorily address the principles of identifiable public benefit and demonstrate that the charity has fulfilled the public benefit requirement under Section 17 of the Charities Act 2011.

Review of Activities During the Year December 2024
The year has been very busy. The Board has set up a 3-year strategy (2024 – 2026) first time in its history. Key strategic focus for next three years will be in four themes as below.

Four working groups have also been identified among Patrons and Trustees to focus on strategic implementation.
1. Health and Wellbeing
1.1 Community Cancer Awareness
NBC-UK collaborated with NHS UK for Community Awareness Campaign. Two trustees Prabhu Neupane and Shreejana Koirala were trained by Cancer Research UK and awareness materials were provided by NHS. This is the first time NBC-UK has had opportunity to collaborate with NHS and Cancer Research. A grant of £500 was received for the Campaign.
A webinar on Community Awareness was organised in October 2024 and the purpose of the webinar was to create awareness what an individual should do to mitigate the risk of cancer, lifestyle and how the family can support when one of a family members have cancer. There were four keynote speakers, Dr Pragya Khanal (Oncologist), Sunita Bohora Khadka (Head of Cancer Unit, NHS), Shreejana Koirala (Matron, NHS) and Prabhu Neupane (Health Care Expert and Care Home Proprietor).
Two lived experiences, Dinesh Thapa and Pandav Mahato shared their experience of cancer. Their experience was very powerful on how personal commitment, and determination can help fight against cancer and live as normal.
The webinar was very effective and over 100 delegates attended the webinar and over 500 people were benefited from the event.
1.2 Healthy Living through Zumba Dance and Yoga Project
NBC-UK has been running Zumba Dance and Yoga since early September. The Project is funded by National Lottery for 40 weeks and will be completed by end May 2025. The value of the grant was £19,650. Beneficiaries of the Project are NBC-UK members and communities. Zumba Dance and Yoga sessions have been organised in London Borough of Harrow Foot Club and trained personnel are running sessions. These sessions are organised weekly and over 80 delegates

attend sessions in person week. Sessions are also broadcasted online and those who cannot attend in person, attend online. Sessions are promoted via social media.
Refreshments are provided during and after Zumba and Yoga sessions. Those who attend sessions have opportunities to meet their relatives, friends and other community members while they attend sessions and share their experience, issues and plans. Zumba and Yoga have been very effective and are source of mental wellbeing.
1.3 Seaside Trip
Seaside Trip is NBC-UK’s annual event. The purpose of this event is to get members from Nepali community together and have some fun at the Bournemouth beach. 418 people joined in the Trip and raised £11,959.

Ten Trustees ran Vitality Big half to raise funds for Nepal Run UK which is a charity that promotes physical fitness of its members, and it has got over 1,000 members from all over the country. It is a not-for-profit organisation similar to an Athletic Club. Trustees of NBC-UK generated £500 to support Nepal Run UK.
2. Education
2.1 Grants for Warm Clothes to School Children
NBC-UK has supported Himali Hearing Impaired and Intellectual Disability School in Simikot, Humla, Nepal. The school accommodated 46 deaf children, who are from a very poor families live in a school hostel for free. The school is situated in a very remote part of Nepal where there is freezing cold and the temperature reached to - 10 degree. The school has a very minimum budget and do not have resources to feed children any nutritional food to children and provide any warm

2.2 Support for Green House
The school gets very minimum support from the Government and do not have resources to provide any nutritional food for children but just Dal Bhat. The Board of NBC-UK provided a fund of NRS312,500 to build a Green House for the School so that Children, their parents and school teachers can grow vegetables for children. The Green House project has been completed, and vegetable seeds and lentils are sown.
Vegetable cannot be grown in an open field due to the weather conditions and can be grown in a Green House. This is a sustainable programme for school.
3. Culture and Heritage
3.1 Teej Celebration
Teej Event is NBC-UK’s annual event. This is celebrated for Women’s wellbeing. The event was celebrated with Nepali cultural dances and songs. Over 250 women and men attended the event and exchanged their wishes to each other on the occasion of Teej. There were some attractive activities at the event including best Nepali dress up among Women and raised £5,276. Two Female Trustees Shreejana Koirala and Tej Maya Regmi hosted the event.

3.2 Deausi Bhailo programme
This is NBC-UK’s annual event to celebrate Deausi Bhailo. It was a two-hour fundraising event and £1,541 was raised from the event. The money has been restricted to the flood victims in Nepal.
Financial Overview
In 2024, the Charity income was £53,455 (2023: £26,894) and expenditure was £26,992 (2023: 32,824) and surplus was £26,463 (2023: loss £5,914). Reserves were £36,829 (2023: £10,366)
Accounting Policies
Trustees have prepared their Financial statements on accruals basis for the year ended on 31[st] December 2024 and in accordance with the Charities (Accounts and Reports) Regulations 2008 and applicable to Statement of Recommended Practice (SORP).

Approval Statement
Board of Trustees approves Trustees Annual Report and Financial Statements which comprise Statement of Financial Activities (SOFA), Balance Sheet and related notes. INDEPENDENT EXAMINER'S REPORT
I report to the trustees on my examination of the accounts of the Nepalese British Community-UK (NBC-UK) (“the Trust”) for the year ended 31 December 2024.
Responsibilities and basis of report
As the charity trustees of NBC-UK, you are responsible for the preparation of the accounts in accordance with the requirements of the Charities Act 2011 (“the Act”).
I report in respect of my examination of the Trust’s accounts carried out under section 145 of the 2011 Act and in carrying out my examination, I have followed the applicable Directions given by the Charity Commission under section 145(5)(b) of the Act.
Independent examiner's statement
I have completed my examination and confirm that no material matters have come to my attention in connection with the examination which gives me cause to believe that in, any material respect:

accounting records were not kept in accordance with section 130 of the Act or

the accounts do not accord with the accounting records.
I have no concerns and have come across no other matters in connection with the examination to which attention should be drawn in this report in order to enable a proper understanding of the accounts to be reached.
