The trustees would like to express their thanks to the Selection Committees for their efforts and fully appreciate how difficult it is to maintain a fair approach to selection while adhering to the wishes of the membership and the ROTA system. The trustees also appreciate the support given to the ladies’ team by some of the men and to the ladies who supported the men’s teams.

The Green and Pavilion
The Trustees continued the contract with Absolute Grasscare who carried out work on the Green, provided materials and consulted with the Green Committee.
Under the direction of Absolute Grasscare the club took responsibility for cutting, verticutting, spiking and the application of Compost Tea.
Poor weather conditions in the Spring and early summer meant that progress of the Green was at least 2 weeks behind. For example numerous applications of moss control were washed away by rain before it could take full effect. Rotation of the direction of play and moving of rink markers were an important part of preventing wear and tear.
Throughout the year repairs, maintenance and further improvements were made.
a) Replaced the ditch edging along the bungalow side.
b) Refurbishment of 2 benches
c) Additional water storage tank was installed.
d) All hedges attended.
e) Flower Garden maintained.
f) Purchase of new patio tables and chairs.
g) Installation of a CCTV system.
h) The council repaired path to side gate and improved path to double gates.
Other Events
The Trustees were delighted by the visits of Cwm Calon Social Day Centre and wish to commend Mick and Sheila Cosker for the work they did in organising and helping the youngsters enjoy the experience of playing bowls and then providing tea and biscuits for them and their carers on the patio afterwards. A successful Fun Day was held towards the end of the season when many friends and relatives of members joined in the activities.
The club hosted the West Glamorgan President’s Team on three occasions. After the matches the Ladies put on a meal at the Bryn Rugby, Sports and Social Club. The trustees would like to thank the wives of some members for coming to the rescue to help out in the last of these visits.
The 2024 Club Tour to Torquay was another success and we received warm welcomes at Kings Bowling Club and Babbacombe Bowling Club.
The club joined other organisations in the village to lay a wreath on Remembrance Sunday at the Bryn War Memorial. (Nov 2023)
Serious health issues of the Secretary and Men’s Captain meant that their duties were picked up by other members of the Committee and the Men’s Vice Captain.
The resignation of the Chairman and his decision to step back from Chair of the Green Committee added to this burden and the Trustees are thankful for the extra work taken on by the Committee and other members.
The continuation and success of the club is central to every decision the Trustees make and we are very grateful for the contributions and support of the members.
