Report of Trustees
October 2020 – September 2021
Membership
The club was delighted to welcome 15 lady members. They have proved to be enthusiastic bowlers. They organised fixtures, joined our tour to Torquay and helped out whenever they could. For the season 2021 the club had 33 full members, 18 men and 15 ladies. 12 people became social members (7 male and 5 female).
League, Friendlies, Competitions and Representative Matches
Neath League – A change of format due to Covid Restrictions at the beginning of the season saw clubs playing only 3 rinks. A very disappointing season resulting in the club finishing bottom of the league which means we will be playing in Division 2 next season.
Port Talbot League – After a slow start the club climbed the table to finish in 2[nd] place.
Competitions – 13 members took part in West Glamorgan and other competitions. Congratulations toBrian Hughes, Ceri Lewis, David Cooper and Gareth Jones who won the West Glamorgan Senior 4s and went on to play in the Welsh Finals Day in Llandrindod Wells. Congratulations also to Howard Daniel who was runner-up in Port Talbot’s Nevyn Lane Singles Competition.
Club’s Competitions
Sheila Cosker became the club’s first Ladies Campion and David Yorwerth finished off his year as club captain by becoming the Men’s Champion. No Doubles Competition took place.
West Glamorgan Representatives
David Cooper, Peter Pearson, Howard Daniel, Brian Hughes, Gareth Jones and Andrew Sheldon were selected for West Glamorgan Seniors’ Team.
Torquay Tour 2021 – The club played a match against Kings Bowls Club in Torquay but due to poor weather conditions the Game against Babbacombe Bowls Club was cancelled.
The Green and Pavilion
The Trustees agreed to enter into a contract with Absolute Grasscare who carried out work on the Green, provided materials, gave advice and consulted with the Green Committee. Under the direction of Absolute Grasscare the club took responsibility for cutting, verticutting,
spiking and the application of Compost Tea.
During the spring and summer members carried out a number of works.
a) Both ends of the pavilion were repainted. Many thanks to Mr. Royden Rogers for carrying out the work and to Councillor Charlotte Galsworthy for providing funds for the materials used.
b) Councillor Charlotte Goldsworthy engaged the help of one of “her” volunteers, Mr. Phil Morgan, to remove the hedge opposite the pavilion.
c) The council agreed to place a fence along this side. However when the work began it was clear it did not conform to a verbal agreement made with the club. The council stopped the work so the club used the fence posts and completed the work.
d) A £1000 grant from Tesco was used to build a wall from the double gates and topped with timber.
e) The club purchased and installed a watering system. (Wiring needs to be completed for automatic, programmed watering to take place.)
f) Astro turf has been laid along 2 sides of the banks.
g) New blinds have been purchased and fitted in the pavilion.
h) The council cut the hedge on the bungalows side after a complaint was made by one of the residents.
The Trustees are grateful for the support and commitment of those members who gave up their time and made an effort to carry out work on the green, around the green, the bank and the upkeep of the pavilion.
