The princlpal actlvlty of the charity is to promote the benefit of the inhabitants of the St Nitholas area
of Stevenage, by associating with local authoritie5. voluntary organisations and inhabitants In a common
efft)rt to advance education and to provide facilities in the interest of social welfare for recreation and
leisure time occupation with the object of improving the conditions of life for the said habitants.
Additionally to establish or to Secure the establishment of a community building and to maintain
and rnanage or to co-operate with any local statutory authority in the maintenance and management
of such a centre for activities promoted by the tharity and its constituents bodies in furtherance of the
above objectives.
The trustees confirm5 that they have had regard for the charity commission guidance on public
benefit
The charlty Is governed by the constitution dated 16th April 1975, which was later amended on the
19th Au8USt 1994.
Achlevements and performance and flnandal review
At the year end, the charity held cash funds of £48,9421202& £37,264) in varlous bank accounts and a
small amount of cash in hand also.
The receipts and payments account this year shows a net surplus of £11,22912024 - £1.290 net surplus).
Rlsk Revlew
The trustees artfvely review the major risk which the charity faces on a regular basis and believe that
malntaining reserves, combined with an annual review of the controls over key financial systerns will
provide sufficient resources for normal operating risks. The trustees have also examined other operational
and buslness risks which are faced and confirm they have estsblished systems to mltigate si8nifi¢ant
risks.
Reserve Policy
In the past the St Nicholas Community Association has suffered a number of financial difficulties. as a
result of unforeseen and unbudgeted expenditure or. more usually. unanticipated reductions in incorne.
The intention of this reserves policy is to ensure that the organisation has adequate funds to meet both
forecast and unexpected expenditures.
The current trustees have reviewed and endorsed this policy. which is to try to build up and maintsin
level of reserve5 in the form of cash deposited with banks or other sounds financial institutions which
can be accessed at short notice, and which would provide the tharity with three months income.
The likely impact of significant bank balances on the attitude of our principal grant providers, the probable
scenari05 which would result In a sudden and si8nificant reduction of inwme. the undesirabS11ty of
leaving large sum5 of money in the bank dolng nothin8 for our area of benefit.
