## _**B. Structure, governance and management**_

Kirby-le-Soken Evangelical Church began in 1968 as a Charitable Unincorporated Association meeting in the building owned by the Datchet Evangelical Fellowship (later Rural Ministries). A new Charitable Incorporated Organisation was set up in 2016 and the church transferred to this on 28 February 2017. At the same time the building was purchased by the church and links with Rural Ministries were severed.

The church is governed by the Church Constitution and the Church Handbook that were adopted by the members on 13 November 2016, and accepted by the Charity Commission on 8 December 2016 when the CIO was registered.

The Trustees are appointed by the church members. The Pastor and Elders are appointed indefinitely but it has been agreed to review the appointments of the two elders in 2024. The other three managing trustees were elected in June 2023 to serve for a three year term.

The trustees aim to meet monthly to transact the business of the Church in line with the decisions taken by the members of the Church at general meetings which are held quarterly.

## _**C. Objectives and Activities**_

The purposes of the Church are the advancement of the Christian faith in accordance with the Basis of Faith primarily but not exclusively in Kirby-le-Soken and the surrounding neighbourhood, and such other charitable purposes as shall, in the opinion of the members of the Church in general meeting, further the work of the Church.

To further these objectives, the Church holds a number of regular meetings and activities. It meets every Sunday to worship God and proclaim His Word and on a Thursday for prayer and Bible study. Broadcasting the Sunday services online is now a regular feature and is used by people unable to

attend the meetings in person. In addition, a weekly mums and toddler group is held during term time and a coffee morning is held weekly through most of the year.

## _**D. Achievements and performance**_

The Church seeks to present the Gospel of Jesus Christ to the neighbourhood through the services and other activities and this year there has been a noticeable growth in the congregations and a more diverse age range. The coffee mornings and mums and toddler group have been well supported through the year and several ladies have met together fortnightly for Bible study. Harvest, Songs of Praise and the Coronation have provided opportunities for special meetings and meals, which have been very well attended.

Further changes have been made to the building to improve the lighting and alter the platform to allow step free access to the rear hall which is of significant benefit to many.

Missionaries and representatives of several organisations have visited during the period and the church has been pleased to help support them. Speakers have come representing Zambesi Mission, AsiaLink and AEM.

## _**E. Financial review**_

The Church is supported entirely by voluntary contributions (mostly made by standing order), and is grateful to those who give of their time and money to support the work. The accounts cover the year from 1-Aug-2022 to 31-Jul-2023.

Over the year receipts were £72,897 (up 49% on last year) and expenditure was £55,510 (down 4%). The increase in giving has largely been into the building fund as we look to rebuilding the prefab sports hall. The end of year balance was £70,252 (up 33%).

The building fund stands at £25.7k which is nearly half the money needed to rebuild the sports hall. The Pastoral support fund, which has been closed to new income, stands at £26.3k. Over the year £7.3k has been transferred from the pastoral support fund to the general fund to help to pay the Pastor’s stipend. This transfer is expected to continue over the next three years until the pastoral fund is exhausted, by which time we hope that the general income will have grown.

Ten percent of offerings and credits are put into the missionary fund which sent gifts totalling £4,500 to EMF, NTM and One Mission. In addition, donations of £3,600 have been made to organisations and individuals involved in the work of the Gospel and relief in the UK and throughout the world.

The funds are held in a current account at Barclays and interest-bearing accounts at Saffron Building Society. There are small cash funds used by the coffee morning and Mums & Toddler group.

A monthly stipend is paid to the Pastor. No other payments have been made to trustees during the year apart from reimbursement of expenditure.
