Section B: Structure, governance and management
Refugee Aid Network UK is governed by its constitution as a Charitable Incorporated Organisation. The trustees are responsible for the general control, direction and management of the charity. Trustee selection is reviewed annually and appointments are made in accordance with the governing document.
The trustees continued to manage the charity through regular online discussion, online meetings and attendance at refugee support and humanitarian aid activity. This operating model remained proportionate to the size of the charity and reflected the voluntary nature of RAN's work.
Trustees gave their time freely throughout the year. The charity had no paid staff, no employment liabilities and no trustee remuneration. Project decisions continued to be made collectively, with trustees reviewing fundraising, partner due diligence, proposed payments and the use of funds against the charity’s objects.
Section C: Objectives and activities
Objects of the charity
The objects of the charity are to relieve and assist refugees, victims of war, conflict or natural disaster for the public benefit. This includes the provision of volunteers, funds, food, medical aid, shelter, access to water and sanitation and other humanitarian assistance.
Refugee Aid Network UK | Trustees' annual report | Year ended 30 June 2025
Main activities for public benefit
During the reporting year, RAN continued the two main strands of activity reported in the previous year. The charity raised funds through individual donations, JustGiving, CAF and regular direct support. Those funds were then applied through due diligence checked partner activity overseas.
RAN continued to collaborate with Ihsan for Children in the same way as the previous year, supporting humanitarian programmes in Palestine through payments for food aid. The charity also continued its collaboration with ROOTS, providing targeted support through a trusted partner route for crisis affected communities.
The trustees confirm that they have had regard to the Charity Commission's guidance on public benefit when reviewing the charity's aims, planning activity and approving the use of charitable funds.
Section D: Achievements and performance
During the reporting year, RAN sustained its established charitable model through individual donations, recurring support and online fundraising. The charity remained deliberately lean, with no paid staff and no internal operating costs beyond the practical requirements of holding and transferring funds. This allowed trustees to direct the available resources to partner delivered humanitarian activity.
The charity’s principal humanitarian activity was the continuation of support to Ihsan for Children. Three payments were made during the financial year for food aid, with £6,000 paid in April 2025, £5,000 paid in May 2025 and £4,000 paid in June 2025. The total support provided through this route was £15,000.
RAN also continued its work with ROOTS. Payments were made in January, February, March and May 2025. The May payment included an error that was partly repaid by ROOTS and treated as a correction in the accounts. After that correction, the net support provided through ROOTS during the year was £2,889.51.
The trustees continued to apply the same decision making discipline as the previous year. Funding was directed through known partner routes where the trustees were satisfied that the work aligned with the charity’s objects and that support would reach vulnerable people affected by conflict, displacement or humanitarian crisis.
Public engagement remained principally donation led. JustGiving receipts, CAF receipts and direct donations provided the charity’s income base. This continued support from individual donors allowed RAN to make timely payments to partners as funds became available.
RAN did not undertake paid service delivery, employ staff or operate a trading activity during the year. The charity’s performance should therefore be understood through the proportion of available funds moved into charitable activity and the maintenance of a simple volunteer led operating model.
Section E: Financial review
Total income for the year was £19,962.84. Total expenditure was £17,889.51. Funds carried forward at 30 June 2025 were £4,255.47.
The charity’s income came from individual donations, JustGiving, CAF and regular direct support. The account switch amount of £2,584.93 was treated as existing charity money transferred from the previous bank account and was not treated as new income for the year.
Charitable expenditure was made through partner payments to Ihsan for Children and ROOTS. The ROOTS repayment of £4,752.05 was treated as a correction of an erroneous payment and was not treated as donation income.
Refugee Aid Network UK | Trustees' annual report | Year ended 30 June 2025
The charity remained below the income threshold for independent examination. The trustees have prepared receipts and payments accounts on a proportionate basis using the available bank statements and supporting records.
Reserves policy
Unrestricted donations are held in reserve for future humanitarian interventions and carried forward for use on aid activity in the subsequent year. The trustees consider the year end balance appropriate because RAN has no paid staff, no continuing employment commitments and no material liabilities. The balance provides a modest working reserve for future partner led humanitarian support.
Funds materially in deficit
None.
Further financial review
The charity had no paid staff and no trustee remuneration. All work was carried out by volunteers. Projects were selected after trustee review of purpose, partner route and fit with the charity’s charitable objects.
Section F: Risk management
The trustees reviewed the main risks faced by the charity during the year. The principal risks were the appropriate use of restricted or donor intended funds, the verification of partner routes, the need to maintain accurate records and the reputational risk that could arise if funds were not applied to charitable purposes.
The trustees managed these risks through collective review of payments, use of established partners, maintenance of bank records and continued scrutiny of whether each proposed payment was consistent with RAN’s charitable objects. The charity did not directly employ staff or deliver regulated services, which limited employment, premises and service delivery risks during the year.
Section G: Declaration
The trustees declare that they have approved the trustees’ annual report above.
