Background to the SLNHO
The Sierra Leone National Heart Organisation is a non-political, non-profit charity organisation, which has been established with the principle objective in the promotion and prevention of cardiovascular disease in Sierra Leone.
Sudden and unexplainable deaths have had a disastrous impact on many lives, Sierra Leone being no different. With the emergence of heart diseases as one of the major killers in the country, the Sierra Leone National Heart Organisation will be playing a pivotal role in the prevention and control of related heart diseases. Ultimately, we aim to make a positive difference to the health of the ordinary Sierra Leonean.
Key Objectives:
-
To promote greater awareness of cardiovascular and non-communicable diseases (such as diabetes and stroke) amongst professionals and Sierra Leoneans
-
To promote cardiovascular health in a variety of settings (healthcare, work sites, communities, universities, and schools) through education, policy and environmental changes
-
To identify promising strategies for promoting a healthy lifestyle
