TRUSTEES' ANNUAL REPORT FOR THE YEAR ENDED 15 JULY 2025

Objectives, activities and public benefit

Blackburn United engages with young people aged 4 to adults, predominantly residing from Blackburn, to provide sporting activities. Many of the children have not taken part in sport at this level before. With this in mind, the club in the past couple of years has put in place several initiatives to ensure that young people are able to fulfil their potential and skill in a competitive context and have the opportunity to compete at the elite level of sport. The future development of the club lies firmly with its ability to work at local grass root levels, showing the importance role sport plays in youth development.

We want to create safer, stronger and more respectful community links through development by increasing participation, the playing, organised regular football and providing role models, coaching leaders and officiating opportunities for parents and volunteers.

Getting young people, particularly the Asian youths, into grassroots sport is an overriding aim for Blackburn United. We feel therefore we are encouraging community cohesion between young people and showing that barriers can be broken down.

During financial year 2016/17, the charity held its annual fundraiser, which was an open invitation to all the community in Blackburn and beyond. This was a great success and brought together people from all backgrounds, ages and demographics. The charity hopes this will be an annual event.

All our male teams competed throughout the year in various leagues based on age boundaries. This was successful to engage more young people in competitive sport and bring together children from different backgrounds.

Financial review

The charity’s main source of income is through voluntary donations and fundraising. The total income for the financial year 2024/25 amounted to £40702. The total expenditure for the financial year was £37829. This expenditure includes match fees, league registrations, equipment, insurance and other general expenses of running a charity sports club.

The charity has a no reserves policy and does not run on a profit-making basis.

Plans for future periods

The charity plans to continue with it’s current good work, but also develop and expand operations to capture a wider audience and include more people from diverse backgrounds. Currently, we are planning to engage in more activities to include female participants from all ages. This includes organising a women’s football and entering them in a competitive league, as well as looking into starting a women’s netball team to participate in a local netball league.

I report on the accounts of the charity for the year ended 15 July 2025.

Respective responsibilities of Trustees and examiner

The charity's Trustees are responsible for the preparation of the accounts. The charity's Trustees consider that an audit is not required for this period under section 144(2) of the Charities Act 2011 (the 2011 Act) and that an independent examination is needed.

It is my responsibility to:

(i) examine the accounts under section 145 of the 2011 Act;

(ii) to follow the procedures laid down in the general Directions given by the Charity Commission under section 145(5)(b) of the 2011 Act; and

(iii) to state whether particular matters have come to my attention.

Basis of independent examiner's report

My examination was carried out in accordance with the general Directions given by the Charity Commission. An examination includes a review of the accounting records kept by the charity and a comparison of the accounts presented with those records. It also includes consideration of any unusual items or disclosures in the accounts, and seeking explanations from you as trustees concerning any such matters. The procedures undertaken do not provide all the evidence that would be required in an audit and consequently no opinion is given as to whether the accounts present a ‘true and fair view’ and the report is limited to those matters set out in the statement below.

Independent examiner's statement

In connection with my examination, no matter has come to my attention:

(a) which gives me reasonable cause to believe that in any material respect the requirements:

(i) to keep accounting records in accordance with section 130 of the 2011 Act; and

(ii) to prepare accounts which accord with the accounting records and comply with the accounting requirements of the 2011 Act;
