The trustees present their annual report and financial statements for the year ended 31 March
2024,
Objerts and Activities
The objects of the Charity are-
To enable persons in Newbury and the surrounding area as well as elsewhere who are
experiencing feelings of distress or despair, including those who may be at rlsk of suicide. to
receive confidential emotional support at any time of the day or night in order to improve
their emotional health and to reduce the incidence of suicide,.
To promote a better understanding in society of 5ui¢ide, suicidal behaviour and the value of
expressing feelings which may otherwise lead to suicide or impaired emotional health,. and
To collaborate with and support Samaritans Central Charlty and its affiliated branches in
fulfllling these Objects.
The Trustees are satisfied that the services provided by the branch are for the public benefit. The
branch has continued to offer its services In accordance with its ob}ectives and no changes are
expected in the future.
Achievements & Performance
We hove sutteeded in providing the afore-mentioned servlces to our callers throughout the year.
Volunteer5
The charity relies completely on the service5 Qf volunteers in fundraising, administration of the
charity and to provide the support which is the main objective of Newbury Samaritans. There are no
paid Staff, but volunteers may claim travelling expenses.
Financlal Review
The principal funding sources are donatlons. grants* gifts and other fundrai5in8 activities.
Reserves pollcv
11 The trustees have set a reserves policy which requires that..
Reserves be maintained at a level which ensures that Newbury Samaritans core artivlty
could continue during a perlod of unforeseen difflculty.
A proportion of reserves be maintained in a readily realisable form.
2} The calculation of the requlred level of reserves is an integral part of the organisation's plannin&
budget and forecast cycle.

41 Other considerations
Newbury Samaritan5 own outright the freehold of the premises at 58, West Street,
Newbury.
There is insurance in place to cover any major incident.
It is the policy of the Trustees to maintain the property to a high standard.
51 It IS the poliry of the Trustees to hold £5(K)O in reserve for any major breakdown or cost not
covered by insurance.
61 It is the policy of the Trustees to hold in reserve sufficient funds to cover annual running costs
for a period of 18 months.
71 Restrlcted funds can only be used for particular purposes of a charity that are narrower than the
overall charitable purposes of the charity. Restricted funds include endowments and restrirted
income funds and are excluded from the definition of reSe￿e5. However, the nature and
amount of restricted funds may influence the amount of reserves held by the charity.
Structure. Governance & Management
The Branch is a Charitable Incorporated Organisation ICIOI and is a public benefit entity. The Branch
15 governed by a constitution that is reviewed periodically by the Trustees to ensure it 15 Still
appropriate.

Independent examlner's report to the trustees of Newbury Samarltsns.
I report on the accounts of the charity for the year ended 31 March 20243. which are set out on
pages 7 to 9.
Respectlve responslbllltles of trustees and examlner
The charivs trustees are responsible for the preparation of the accounts. The trustees consider that
an audit is not required for this year under sertion 144121 of the Charltles Art 20111.the 2011 Acfl
and that an independent examination is needed.
It Is my responsibility to:
examine the account5 under Sertion 145 of the 2011 Act;
follow the procedures laid down in the General Dirertions given by the Charrty Commission
under section 1451511bl of the 2011 Act: and
state whether particular matters have come to my attention.

My examlnation wa5 carried out in accordance with the General Dlrectlons gNen by the Charity
Commission. An examination includes a revÉew of the accountlng records kept by the charity and
comparlson of the accounts presented with those record5. It also Includes considerat6on of any
unusual items or disclosures in the accounts, and seeks explanations from you as trustees
concernin8 any such matter5. The procedures undertaken do not provide all the evidence that would
be required in an audit. and consequently M opinion is given as to whether the accounts pre5eDt a
"true & fairf view and the report Is Ilmited to those matters set out in the ststement below.
Independent examiner's statsment
In connection with my examination, no matter came to my attention:_
