1 Objectives and Activities:

1.1 Description of Charity Purposes & Objects

The purposes and objects were registered in the Constitution, originally drawn up in December 2015 and updated and consigned in 2016 as part of the application to the Charity Commission. The purposes and objects of the charity have been reviewed and reaffirmed at each Annual General Meeting of Trustees from January 2019, and most recently at the AGM on 29[th] December 2021.

The objects of the CIO are:

• The promotion of religious harmony for the benefit of the public by educating the public in different religious beliefs including an awareness of their distinctive features and their common ground to promote good relations between persons of different faiths, and by promoting knowledge and mutual understanding and respect of the beliefs and practices of different religious faiths, and by increasing mutual understanding of the spiritual doctrines held in common between different religions;

• The advancement of education in the matters of both spiritual expression and religious practice and adherence for the benefit of the public, through lectures, conferences, and public events which increase levels of information, understanding, knowledge and tolerance so as specifically to counteract negative, divisive and extremist approaches to religious interpretation and practice;

• The advancement of the faith of lslam through its spiritual doctrine of Sufism for the benefit of the public, through the holding of meetings, lectures, seminars, and public events where this doctrine can be shared, understood, practised, and so as to enlighten others about the peaceful nature of the lslamic religion through sharing and communicating its spiritual doctrines.

1.2 Public Benefit Statement

The Trustees confirm that they have complied with the duty in Section 4 of the Charities Act 2006 (and the updated Charity Act 2011) to have due regard to the Charity Commission's general guidance on public benefit (Charities and Public Benefit).

The Trustees have ensured that all activities of the Charity are aligned with the Objects of the constitution. By organising, subsidising, promoting and running events, workshops and online communications for the engagement, participation and benefit of the general public, these activities contribute to the delivery of the Charity’s Strategy (2015 – 2025). The Strategy also aims to further develop and

enhance the capacity of the Charity to meet the Objects and thereby extend the planned benefit to the public more widely.

2 Achievements & Performance:

2.1 List of events carried out

The strategy for 2015 to 2025 was agreed on registration of the Charity and many of the aims have been achieved as recorded in the previous year’s AGM Report.

In the year April 2020 to March 2021, the outreach activities of the charity continued on a low-level basis due to the Covid19 pandemic whilst bigger events that had been planned were rescheduled for the future. Those events that continued were all online requiring development of the Charity’s capacity to deliver in this context. Further considerable investment in time was made to establishing rigorous management, administrative and regulatory structures within the Charity with a view to increasing its outreach activity in the coming years.

During April 2020 to March 2021, the following achievements were secured:

• 2.1 Initiation of a regular weekly programme of online sessions offering an introduction to the practices of Sufism.

carried out enabling the Charity to now embark on a greater level of outreach activity with excellent levels of compliance with UK legislation.

It is acknowledged that in accordance with the overall strategy, 2015 to 2025, outreach and communications activity in the following year (April 2021 to March 2022), subject to the restrictions and requirements of the Covid19 context, need to be reactivated. This needs to be reviewed as well in line with increased interest and activity in the online space. In particular, the planned conference and concert scheduled originally for September 2019, re-assigned to October 2021 has been agree to be postponed until either the pandemic is over, or an alternative online platform is developed for this.

3 Financial Review

3.1 Financial Report & Accounts 1[st] April 2020 to 30[th] March 2021.

The Charity is a CIO and therefore is expected by the Charity Commission to submit accounts according to FRS 102 SORP according to the provisions for the small company regime. The directors acknowledge their responsibilities for complying with the requirements of the Companies Act with respect to accounting records and the preparation of accounts.

The financial accounts for April 2020 to March 2021 are included in Appendix 2 below.

3.2 Audit and External Examiner.

The company was entitled to exemption from audit under s477 of the Companies Act 2006 relating to small companies. Although the overall income of BSPC is below £25,000 and therefore is not required to have an external examiner, the trustees have decided to carry this out in addition to its statutory responsibilities as a commitment to and to set a precedent of good practice. This is included in Appendix 3.

• 3.3 Review of financial policy and registrations with external regulatory bodies.

BSPC is now able to ensure accurate financial overview and regulation in general and for grant making bodies for specific projects.

• 3.1.1 Bank: The Charity secured a Bank account with CAF Bank in December 2019, and there are two signatories. It is hoped that with the recruitment of two further trustees, the number of signatories will increase to 3 to ensure continuity.

• 3.1.2 The Bank accounts contains three accounts: Current, Projects and Gold Savings accounts.

• 3.1.3 Accrual accounts have been completed for the period 1st April 2020 to 30[th] March 2021 according to the above legislation.

• 3.1.4 HMRC Registration: BSPC is registered with HMRC for tax purposes (Dec. 2019).

• 3.1.5 Financial Policies & Registration with regulatory bodies: the Fundraising Regulator (April 2020). The Charity is compliant with the Code of Practice and the Fundraising Promise. Renewal is due for 30[th] April 2021.

• 3.1.6 BSPC has also developed a variety of financial, risk and project management policies for Fundraising Regulator status.

4 Structure, Governance & Management: Report on Organisational Structure, Policies & Meetings

4.1 Governance and Management

4.1.1 Review of Constitution

The Constitution objectives have been reviewed and confirmed. The number of trustees required at a meeting for it to be considered quorate is 4 or at least a third of the trustees, whichever is greater as approved at the AGM, Jan 1[st] 2021.

4.1.2 Organisational Structure

The structure of BSPC has been reviewed and remains the same as in previous year (see Appendix 1 Organisational Chart) and is approved annually by the trustees at the AGM. The management of BSPC is laid out in the Constitution, in accordance with the trustee responsibilities and volunteering roles as per Organisational Chart.

It is noted that three trustees’ first terms expire in 2020 and a further trustee will be sought to replace a resigned trustee from 2019.

• 4.2.2 Reappointment of trustees for a second term : As per the Constitution, each trustee can be reappointed for up to three times, after which they must be relieved of the position for a year. Subsequent to this, they can be reappointed.

Of the three trustees whose terms finish in 2020, two have requested reappointment for a second term. Appointees' re-election for a second term was initially agreed at the Spring 2020 Meeting and was confirmed at the AGM on 1[st] Jan 2021. The two reappointments are as follows:

• 4.2.3 Resignations and end of terms without reappointment : Mr Ricci Zahid Dean’s term expired in Nov 2020 and no request for a renewal for a second term was received.

• 4.2.4 Vacant trustee roles : As a result of the 2019 resignation and the nonrequest for reappointment at the end of term, two trustee roles will require replacement in 2021.

• 4.3 Annual General Meeting to approve Annual Returns for year 1[st] April 2020 to March 2021 took place on 29[th] Dec. 2021

AGM: The contents of this Trustees’ Annual Report and an updated Constitution (with minor changes) were agreed at the fourth Annual General Meeting of BSPC in London on Friday, 29[th] Dec 2021, along with the Charity’s accounts for the period 1st April 2020 to 30[th] March 2021.

In advance, the Charity’s profile and trustee details were reviewed and updated on the Charity Commission’s register where necessary, with the agreement of all trustees. Together this constitutes the Annual Returns for the above period and forms part of the overall Director’s Annual Report.

According to the Charity Constitution, there are 9 trustee places in total and a meeting can be declared quorate if 4 trustees or one third of the total number of trustees (whichever number is greater) are present at any meeting. The Annual General Meeting was by Zoom on Wed. 29[th] Dec. 2021. The meeting was quorate, having been attended by 7 trustees (Mr Marek Lubelski, Mr. AR Eatwell, Ms Mairi Lubelska, Dr Siobhan Bygate, Dr Abril Saucedo Medina, Mme Farida M’Madi and Mr. Ramsay McCulloch). Some of these trustees have replaced previous trustees as agreed at the Summer Meeting in 2021) with email contributions having been received in advance from other trustees.

4.4 Conflict of Interests Declaration

All trustees confirmed they were not aware of any conflict of interests between their private or professional affairs and their responsibilities as trustees for the period of this Annual Report. Nor were they aware of any future conflicts and confirmed there would inform the Chair if such circumstances should occur.

All trustees are volunteers and receive no payment for their voluntary services, nor benefit in any other way from their connection to the Charity.Trustees acknowledged that rules relating to Conflict of Interests were lodged in BSPC’s Financial Control and Accounts Strategy and in the Annual Returns Policy (Apr 2021). There are no conflict of interests to be reported this year (Apr 2020 to March

All policies are reviewed on an annual basis in advance of the AGM by the Policy Officer. The schedule of policies and registrations now in place are listed below in Appendix 4. All policies are made available to all trustees in advance of each AGM. The Charity is now fully compliant with Data Protection policies and registered with the ICO and with the Financial Regulator.

5.2.2 Relevant training of trustees

Safeguarding: Both Safeguarding officers have received Safeguarding and Prevention of Terrorism training and have Extended Disclosure and Barring Service clearance as part of their professional appointments in medicine and education. In addition, Siobhan Bygate has completed updated training with the OCSB Oxfordshire in April 2020. I report to the charity trustees on my examination of the accounts of the Company for the year ended 30 / 03 / 2021 .

Responsibilities and basis As the charity’s trustees of the Company (who are also the directors of the of report company for the purposes of company law), you are responsible for the preparation of the accounts in accordance with the requirements of the Companies Act 2006 (“the 2006 Act”). Having satisfied myself that the accounts of the Company are not required to be audited for this year under Part 16 of the 2006 Act and are eligible for independent examination, I report in respect of my examination of your charity’s accounts as carried out under section 145 of the Charities Act 2011 (“the 2011 Act”).
