The Trustees are pleased to present their report together with the financial statements of the charity for the year ended 31st March 2024.
Objects of the charity
The Charity is set up for the public benefit, the relief and assistance of the people of Nepal in need who are victims of natural disasters or catastrophes by supplying them with medical aid and assistance. To advance education of healthcare workers at all levels by providing and assisting in funding for organisation of educational events and provision of trainers from UK for improvement of health care for the general population of Nepal.
Organisation and background
The charity is administered by its board of Trustees in accordance with its constitution. For the year to 31st March 2024, the board was comprised of the Trustees listed at page 2.
The charity was registered with the Charity Commission on 24 November 2016 and is governed by its constitution which was adopted on 8 June 2016 as amended on 31 May 2020 (Nothing in this constitution shall authorise an application of the property of the charity for purposes which are not charitable in accordance with section 7 of the Charities and Trustee Investment (Scotland) Act 2005 and/or section 2 of the Charities Act (Northern Ireland) 2008).
Achievements In Year
The year ended 31st March 2024 was a very busy one for Nepalese Doctors Association UK. Our activities during the year included organising a surgical skills course in collaboration with Hull Hospitals, supporting an airway workshop at Nepal Mediciti Hospital, collaborating with the Amercan Nepal Medical Association to establish an oxygen tank at Kathmandu Institute of Child health, providing a health awareness programme for colorectal cancer, collaborating with HExN and The Royal College of Surgeons Edinburgh to provide Laparascopic Surgery courses in Pokhara, Dhulikel and Manipal and providing webinars to advise on how to prepare for IMT applications and interviews. The aforementioned are just an example of the many and varied activities undertaken by Nepalese Doctors Association UK during the year ended 31st March 2024.
Sadly November 2023 saw an earthquake in Karnali Province which tragically resulted in hundreds of deaths and serious injuries. Nepalese Doctors Association Uk reacted to this by allowing our emergency fund to be donated to relieve the immediate suffering of those affected to the greatest extent possible and also to assist the rebuilding and reconstruction of damaged health and educational facilities in the longer term.
Future Developments
The charity will continue to raise funds to enable it to provide aid to those in need in accordance with the objects of the charity as set out above.
The charity will be continuing to support ongoing projects to promote health care in Nepal and will continue to work with partners to fulfill this objective. In particular preparations were undertaken in the year ended 31st March 2024 to organise a trip to the remote Rasuwa district of Nepal to improve healthcare there by educating local doctors and providing essential healthcare equipment. The trip itself took place in April 2024.
