OBJECTIVES AND MANAGEMENT
The objectives of the Trust are:
The aim of New Buddha Way (hereafter ‘NBW’) is to advance the Buddhist religion (also known as ‘the Buddha Dharma’) for the benefit of the public in accordance with the spiritual, religious and ethical framework of ‘The Four Noble Truths’ and ‘The Noble Eightfold Path’, with their particular emphasis on wisdom, non-harm, compassion, and peace. To do this for the benefit of the public by means of:
-
Teaching, informing, publicising, and distributing the Buddhist teachings and way of life in lectures and classes as well as paper and digital media. These are delivered with recognition that the preferred Buddhist way is by ‘making available’ rather than proselytising.
-
Manifesting peaceful coexistence and community, through the holding of mainly free activities that are open and available to the public (as well as adherents) including:
-
(a) Community meditation and contemplation sessions,
-
(b) Meditation retreats,
-
(c) The public celebration of Buddhist festivals,
-
(d) Occasional pastoral care.
People in poverty will not be excluded from the opportunity to benefit from NBW’s teachings.
HISTORY
New Buddha Way was founded in 2002 in Guildford as a voluntary association by Prof. Geoff Hunt, Buddhist Chaplain at Surrey University. Since then, the group has grown steadily to become the small community that meets today.
REVIEW OF THE YEAR
From March 2023 New Buddha Way continued to meet for meditation practice as a community. We have met every Sunday and occasionally midweek and have up to thirty people each week with participants old and new able to join us from various locations.
These sessions, as everything we provide at NBW, are free.
We have offered an Introductory Session every eight weeks to anyone who would like to know more about NBW and follow on with our Sunday Community Sessions.
We have also provided a 48-hour residential retreat and a day retreat.
We raised funds through participant donations this year and were able to send a contribution to the Anukampa Bhikkhuni Monastery Project. We are also supporting the Anukampa Project with a regular vegetable box donation.
Our board of Trustees met regularly throughout the year and we have been supported by new members stepping forward from the community to continue the charities’ work.
We continue to promote our aims of wisdom, non-harm, compassion, and peace.
