## R E P O R T  O F  T R U S T E E S 

Inspiring Youth Achievement (INSPYA) aims to encourage, support and inspire young people to achieve their ambitions. The organisation achieves its aims through mentoring, self development workshops and career workshops. 

Our objective is to advance the education and training of young people under the age of 25 years for the public benefit in particular but not exclusively by providing mentoring, self-development workshops, career events, networking opportunities and training programmes, advice. 

Unfortunately, in light of the Corona Virus Pandemic, we suspended all in person workshops. This resulted in the suspension of our mentoring programme (Equip to Succeed) in Ghana and our career workshops both in the UK and in Ghana. 

We reviewed our current projects and developed new projects which were safe and secure and would reduce the risk of our volunteers and service users contracting Covid-19. 

We also considered alternative ways to deliver the objectives of the charity. We kept in mind the objective of the charity and the Charity Commission’s guidance on public benefit in order to ensure that we were able to achieve our aims. 

We launched an online Career Series and undertook a fundraiser to support the orphanages we had been working with in Ghana. 

We are extremely grateful to the professionals who volunteered their time and also everyone who donated to our fundraiser to support the orphanages. We continue to be grateful for the hard work and commitment of our volunteers to achieving the aims and objectives of INSPYA. Without their hard work and commitment, we would not have been able to achieve the success we did during these unprecedented times. 

O N L I N E  C A R E E R  S E R I E S 

We held two online career series. The first was a CV and Interview Skills Seminar. 

In this seminar, held on Zoom, students who would benefit from this seminar heard from Edward Boateng, Barrister and Legal Consultant about what employers expect from applicants and how to stand out during interviews. 

The second seminar, Entrepreneurship and How to Network, was focused on young people in Ghana. The panel included Alison Darkwah, CEO of Gem Consultancy, a recruitment agency in Ghana, Arnold Asamoah Baidoo, CEO of Arn-Berrie Communications and Entertainment Journalist, Cleopatra Nsiah Nketiah and Edward Boateng, CEO of EB Legal Consultancy. The seminar covered various topics relating to entrepreneurship and what it takes to set up a business. The seminar was recorded

and published on our website, YouTube Channel and circulated to students. This was a successful seminar which encouraged students to create their own opportunities. 

F U N D R A I S E R  S U P P O R T I N G  B E A C O N  H O U S E  O R P H A N A G E A N D  C H R I S T  F A I T H  F O S T E R  H O M E ,  G H A N A 

Following the launch of our Equip to Succeed Mentoring Programme, we were working with Beacon House Orphanage and Christ Faith Foster Home, supporting their students in their education and through mentoring. In light of the Corona Virus Pandemic, we had to suspend our mentoring programme. 

We however continued to support the orphanage by fundraising and providing materials to them to support their young people. We were able to raise a total of £840 through GoFundMe. This at the time amounted to approximately 6000 GHC. The monies were divided between the two orphanages and presented to them. 

B R U C E  G R O V E  Y O U T H  C L U B &  T A N E S H A  M E L B O U R N E F O U N D A T I O N 

Funding was secured during our last financial year in order to support the Tanesha Melbourne Foundation and also to develop projects and support young people at Bruce Grove Youth Club. This funding was used during this financial year to further support the activities of the Tanesha Melbourne Foundation. Music equipment was also purchased for young people to use at Bruce Grove Youth Club and for the music production projects held at Bruce Grove Youth Club.

## N O T E S  T O  T H E  A C C O U N T 

## **Income** 

**1.** Income was received through fundraising activities and donations. 

- 2.The charity did not receive any income from contracts or any grant funding from central government or local authorities. 

## **Grant making** 

**3.** Grant making is not the main way the charity carries out its purposes, however, the charity received £20,999 from the Caring As One Family Foundation. Of the amount received, £5000 was allocated to the Tanesha Melbourne Foundation in order to support the Foundation’s activities, following a partnership between INSPYA and the Tanesha Melbourne Foundation. 

## **Overseas Charitable Activities** 

**4.** During the financial period, Inspiring Youth Achievement, registered as a charity in Ghana.  Its first project commenced in October 2019 and details of the activities undertaken in Ghana have been set out above. 

**5.** Monies were transferred to Ghana using the money transfer company World Remit and Remitly. In order for money to be retrieved by our team in Ghana, they are required to attend one of the specified banks and can only withdraw using a photo ID. 

**6.** The charity does have monitoring controls in place to monitor expenditure. The trustees are satisfied that the risk management policy and procedures adequately address the risks to the charity arising from its activities and where it operates. 

## **Trading Subsidiaries** 

- 7.The charity does not have any trading subsidiaries 

## **Trustees/Staff/Volunteers** 

- 8.The trustees did not receive any remunerations or benefits other than expenses incurred. Trustees were not for any services. All trustees act on a voluntary basis. 

- 9.There have been no resignations during the financial period by any trustees. 

- 10.The charity does not have any paid staff. All those who assist with the activities of the charity, do so on a voluntary basis.

- 11.During the financial period, the charity had three trustees and 20 volunteers. 

12. The charity has obtained a DBS check for all trustees and volunteers in eligible positions. In relation to those overseas (Ghana), checks were undertaken through references. There was also a vigorous application procedure for recruiting mentors in Ghana to ensure that any concerns were allayed and adequate measures were put in place in line with our child protection policy. 

## **Financial Controls** 

13. In light of the fact that the charity is now (para. [20], p. 5) operating outside of the UK and has received an increase in income in the last financial period, a review of the financial controls in place will be taking place in order to ensure that the current controls in place are still adequate.
