## TRUSTEES REPORT

## FOR THE YEAR ENDING 31 AUGUST 2022

The trustees present their report and the unaudited financial statements of the charity for the period ended 31 August 2022

## **Structure Governance and Management**

## **Organisation**

The trustees are appointed or reappointed annually at AGM.

## **Public benefit**

The Trustees have complied with their duty under section 17 of the charities act 2011 to have due regard to public benefit guidance published by the charity commission.

## **Objectives and Activities**

## **Objectives of the Charity**

The aim of the Pre-school is to enhance the development and education of children primarily under statutory school age by encouraging parents to understand and provide for the needs of their children through community groups and by

- Offering appropriate play, education and care facilities, family learning and extended hours groups, together with the right of parents to take responsibility for and to become involved in the activities of such groups, ensuring that such groups offer opportunities for all children whatever their race, culture, religion means or ability.

- Encouraging the study of the needs of such children and their families and promoting public interest in and recognition of such needs in the local areas.

## **Summary of main achievements of the Charity during the year.**

Ridgewood Preschool’s Board of Trustees have continued this year to provide high quality early years education to the families of Yate and Chipping Sodbury.

The early years sector continues to be undervalued and underfunded but with our charitable status we can continue to invest any surplus funds at the end of the year to keep the setting open and operating at maximum capacity as early in the academic year as possible. Our staff team are paid above the average wage of a comparable role in a profit-making business and therefore we retain our highly trained and experienced staff team through reflecting their worth in the wage for their role.

## TRUSTEES REPORT

## FOR THE YEAR ENDING 31 AUGUST 2022

## **Summary of main achievements of the Charity during the year- Continued.**

We continue to meet the Ofsted criteria of offering high value early years education, interventions and progressing each child’s development to their full potential ready for statutory education. We excel at this especially for children with SEN.

## **Reserves policy and risk management**

The trustees propose to place into reserves one third of any monies that are raised through fundraising at the end of any financial year.

The trustees have examined the major risks to which the charity is exposed, and systems will continue to be established to mitigate those risks. These procedures will be periodically reviewed to ensure that they still meet the needs of the charity.

## **Plans for the future**

- Continue to explore new ways to recruit more children to fill places.

- Explore more ways to encourage parents to take an active role in our preschool, this will help raise vital funds.

- Continue to manage the cost vs profit analysis to ensure there is enough margin to be sustainable.

- Continue to seek grants to help maintain key activities of the preschool.

- Continue to build our reserves.

## **Trustees’ responsibilities in relation to the financial statements**

The trustees’ declare that they have approved the trustees’ report above.

## INDEPENDENT EXAMINER’S REPORT TO THE TRUSTEES

## FOR THE YEAR ENDING 31 AUGUST 2022

I report on the accounts of the charity for the period ending 31 August 2022 which are set out on pages 5-6.

## **Respective responsibilities of trustees and examiner**

The charity's trustees are responsible for the preparation of the accounts. The charity’s trustees consider that an audit is not required for this year under section 144 of the Charities Act 2011 (the Charities Act) and that an independent examination is needed.

It is my responsibility to:

- examine the accounts under section 145 of the Charities Act,

- to follow the procedures laid down in the general Directions given by the Charity Commission (under section 145(5)(b) of the Charities Act, and

- to state whether matters have come to my attention

## **Basis of independent examiner’s statement**

My examination was carried out in accordance with general Directions given by the Charity Commission. An examination includes a review of the accounting records kept by the charity and a comparison of the accounts presented with those records. It also includes consideration of any unusual items or disclosures in the accounts and seeking explanations from the trustees concerning any such matters. The procedures undertaken do not provide all the evidence that would be required in an audit, and consequently no opinion is given as to whether the accounts present a ‘true and fair’ view and the report is limited to those matters set out in the statement below.

## **Independent examiner's statement**

In connection with my examination, no matter has come to my attention which gives me reasonable cause to believe that in, any material respect, the requirements:

- to keep accounting records in accordance with section 130 of the Charities Act; and

- to prepare accounts which accord with the accounting records and comply with the accounting requirements of the Charities Act have not been met.
