It was granted ‘Charitable Incorporated organisation’ status on 21 November 2016. Charity number 1170289. ## **Trustees** Mireille Williams- Chair Bridgette Bennett-Purnell - Secretary Emily Griffiths - Treasurer Faye Buffham - Trustee Zoe Cockle – Trustee Danielle Wakefield - Trustee ## **Registered Office** Ridgewood Community Centre 244 Station Road Yate Bristol BS37 4AF ## **Independent Examiners** Dolman’s Chartered Accountants The Mews Hounds Road Chipping Sodbury Bristol BS37 6EE ## **Bankers** HSBC 2 North Walk Yate Bristol BS37 4AR Page 1 ## RIDGEWOOD PRESCHOOL ## TRUSTEES REPORT ## FOR THE YEAR ENDING 31 AUGUST 2020 The trustees present their report and the unaudited financial statements of the charity for the period ended 31 August 2020 ## **Structure Governance and Management** ## **Organisation** The trustees are appointed or reappointed annually at AGM. ## **Public benefit** The Trustees have complied with their duty under section 17 of the charities act 2011 to have due regard to public benefit guidance published by the charity commission. ## **Objectives and Activities** ## **Objectives of the Charity** The aim of the Pre-school is to enhance the development and education of children primarily under statutory school age by encouraging parents to understand and provide for the needs of their children through community groups and by - Offering appropriate play, education and care facilities, family learning and extended hours groups, together with the right of parents to take responsibility for and to become involved in the activities of such groups, ensuring that such groups offer opportunities for all children whatever their race, culture, religion means or ability. - Encouraging the study of the needs of such children and their families and promoting public interest in and recognition of such needs in the local areas. ## **Summary of main achievements of the Charity during the year.** This academic year started off as usual until the Covid-19 pandemic caused the national lockdown for this country. We had to close our setting from mid-March through until the beginning of Term 6. A reduced number of children returned in June and under very strict Covid-19 conditions. Financial support was given to all settings with the predicted NEF grant of children registered. We provided virtual support to all the families in our care. This pandemic has caused widespread uncertainty for the staff team, the Early Years sector and the country as a whole. We continued to support our transitioning children to school and for returning families in September. Page 2 ## RIDGEWOOD PRESCHOOL ## TRUSTEES REPORT ## FOR THE YEAR ENDING 31 AUGUST 2020 ## **Reserves policy and risk management** The trustees propose to place into reserves one third of any monies that are raised through fundraising at the end of any financial year. The trustees have examined the major risks to which the charity is exposed, and systems will continue to be established to mitigate those risks. These procedures will be periodically reviewed to ensure that they still meet the needs of the charity. ## **Plans for the future** - Continue to explore new ways to recruit more children to fill places. - Explore more ways to encourage parents to take an active role in our preschool, this will help raise vital funds. - Continue to manage the cost vs profit analysis to ensure there is enough margin to be sustainable. - Continue to seek grants to help maintain key activities of the preschool. - Continue to build our reserves. ## **Trustees’ responsibilities in relation to the financial statements** The trustees’ declare that they have approved the trustees’ report above. Page 3 ## RIDGEWOOD PRESCHOOL ## INDEPENDENT EXAMINER’S REPORT TO THE TRUSTEES ## FOR THE YEAR ENDING 31 AUGUST 2020 I report on the accounts of the charity for the period ending 31 August 2020 which are set out on pages 5-6. ## **Respective responsibilities of trustees and examiner** The charity's trustees are responsible for the preparation of the accounts. The charity’s trustees consider that an audit is not required for this year under section 144 of the Charities Act 2011 (the Charities Act) and that an independent examination is needed. It is my responsibility to: - examine the accounts under section 145 of the Charities Act, - to follow the procedures laid down in the general Directions given by the Charity Commission (under section 145(5)(b) of the Charities Act, and - to state whether matters have come to my attention ## **Basis of independent examiner’s statement** My examination was carried out in accordance with general Directions given by the Charity Commission. An examination includes a review of the accounting records kept by the charity and a comparison of the accounts presented with those records. It also includes consideration of any unusual items or disclosures in the accounts and seeking explanations from the trustees concerning any such matters. The procedures undertaken do not provide all the evidence that would be required in an audit, and consequently no opinion is given as to whether the accounts present a ‘true and fair’ view and the report is limited to those matters set out in the statement below. ## **Independent examiner's statement** In connection with my examination, no matter has come to my attention which gives me reasonable cause to believe that in, any material respect, the requirements: - to keep accounting records in accordance with section 130 of the Charities Act; and - to prepare accounts which accord with the accounting records and comply with the accounting requirements of the Charities Act have not been met. …………………………………………………………… Date ………………………………………………..
