Background history of Shadeaid:

Shadeaid is a voluntary organisation, based in the United Kingdom. The charity caters for orphans and widows and other deprived people of South Sudan.

Aims and Objectives:

Is to relieve the needs of its beneficiaries in areas chosen by the trustees of the charity. This can be achieved by:

  1. Helping to establish a charity shop in juba , the capital of South Sudan, depending on the security of the country.

  2. Setting up a ‘Well Women clinics’ in a village called Pageri, also depending on the security of the village.

  3. Setting up funds to enable deprived children to attend schools and enable others access to wider educational provisions.

  4. Undertake other such charitable events and activities as seen fit by the trustees to further the objectives of Shadeaid.

Areas of work of the charity:

The main area of work is Sudan where a high number of refugees have fled to, after the civil war erupted in 2013. There are deprived South Sudanese people living in Sudan since 1983 when civil war erupted between Sudan and South Sudan. These people also need help.

The charity is managed by a “Management Committee” and the committee members are called “Trustees”. Currently there are 3 trustees: The Chairperson, The Secretary General and the Treasurer.

They are:

  1. Alma Ettore: The Chairperson, whose main duty is to oversee the smooth running of the charity such as chairing meetings, representing the charity in the UK and overseas if it is within the aims and objectives of the charity. The Chairperson also has the duty to maintain good working relationship with other similar groups or organisations and delegate tasks within the organisation, in line with Shadeaid constitution.

  2. Sarah McGrath: Is the Secretary General of the organisation whose main duty is to take minutes of meetings and act in the absence of the chair. Her responsibilities include keeping a record of all the employees of the charity, record all the assets and compile an end of year report to be given to the Management Committee.

  3. Cynthia Ettore: The Treasurer. Her main function is to keep the financial accounts of the charity, organise fundraising events and collect donations for and keep all the receipts for money received and spent by Shadeaid. Another duty is to provide financial reports to the Management Committee and Annual General Meetings.
