1.0 Overview

The board of trustees is pleased to present the annual report and accounts for The Peace Institute, a Charitable Incorporated Organisation (CIO), for the year ending 01 January 2026. The trustees hereby confirm that all activities and financial practices comply fully with the charity's governing trust deed and current statutory regulations under the Charities Act.

3.0 Structure, Governance and Governing Document

The Peace Institute is a registered charity, having been incorporated with the Charity Commission in November 2016 under the registration number 1170207. Comprehensive registration details and our governing documents can be accessed directly via the Charity Commission's online register.

4.0 Organisational Structure

The control and management of the charity rest with the board of trustees, who volunteer their time entirely without remuneration or financial benefit.

The trustees meet regularly to oversee the smooth operation of the organisation, recruiting additional volunteers on a project-by-project basis to support the charity's activities.

5.0 Appointment and Induction of Trustees

One trustee resigned during the course of the years. No new trustees have been appointed. Future recruitment will be conducted as required, targeting candidates who deeply understand the community and command its respect.

The board applies the following criteria when vetting potential trustees. Candidates must:

• Actively participate in The Peace Institute's events and functions.

• Show a demonstrated commitment to volunteering within our wider community programs.

• Effectively represent Islam as a peaceful way of life.

Candidates are initially invited to attend a board meeting as observers to familiarise themselves with the organisation's core objectives. Following formal approval and appointment, new trustees complete a structured induction. They are provided with essential Charity Commission documentation and directed toward statutory guidance on charitable public benefit to ensure full awareness of their duties. To facilitate a smooth onboarding process, new trustees are paired with an experienced board member to collaborate on designated charitable initiatives.

6.0 Risk Management

Risk management is an ongoing priority for the board. The trustees conduct comprehensive risk assessments for all projects and initiatives, ensuring that robust internal controls and safeguarding measures are actively maintained to protect the charity, its assets, and its beneficiaries.

7.0 Objectives of the Organisation

Our objectives have been set out in our governing document as follows;

• 1) To advance the Islamic faith as a peaceful way of life in the UK and abroad for the benefit of the public through:

• a) Providing places of worship, conducting religious ceremonies and safe social facilities and spaces for youth and others for moral and spiritual improvement.

• b) Holding of religious worship.

• c) Producing and disseminating of religious communications including lectures, dialogue, literature, advice and awareness of Islam using all forms of media.

• d) Resolving conflicts and challenges about peaceful Islamic beliefs and practices.

• e) Researching, responding, challenging and disseminating information on contemporary issues and challenges affecting Islam.

• f) Engaging and interacting with the wider public and other institutions to raise awareness and understanding of the peaceful nature of Islam.

• 2) The prevention or relief of poverty or financial hardship anywhere in the world and to anyone by providing and/or assisting in the provision of food, housing, education, training, healthcare projects and all the necessary support designed to enable individuals to generate a sustainable income and be self-sufficient.

• 3) The relief of financial need and suffering among victims of war, natural disaster, trouble, catastrophe or other kinds of disaster in the form of money or other means deemed suitable for persons, bodies, organisations and/or countries affected including the provision of medical aid.

• 4) The promotion of religious and racial harmony for the public benefit through;

• a) Promoting knowledge and mutual understanding between different groups on the different belief systems and no belief systems.

• b) Advancing education and raising awareness about different racial, religious and non-religious groups to promote good relations and highlight common ground to promote humanity and harmony.

• c) Working towards the elimination of discrimination and mistrust on the grounds of race, religion and no religion

8.0 Strategies

The trustees remain committed to the long-term strategic objective of developing a 'Peace Centre.' This multipurpose facility is envisioned as an inclusive communal hub, welcoming individuals of all faiths, as well as those of no faith, to gather, engage, and learn. The Centre aims to foster a deeper understanding of contemporary Islam, emphasising its inherent compatibility with universal human values. Additionally, the facility will provide vital infrastructure to nurture and train the next generation of community youth and Imams.

9.0 Activities for the Financial Year

While the overall volume of activities was scaled back this financial year, our efforts remained highly focused. Our varied work primarily centred on youth development and advocacy—specifically raising awareness about global injustices and prejudices, with a particular emphasis on the Holy Lands. Key initiatives for the year included the following:

9.1 Interfaith Forums

The trustees consider interfaith forums to be vital platforms for demonstrating Islam as a peaceful way of life. Following a temporary withdrawal from the North Kirklees Interfaith network, the board plans to re-engage with the forum in due course.

9.2 Faith advisory work with School, Colleges and Universities

The Peace Institute partners with regional educational institutions, providing faith-based expertise to offer confidential advice and help mediate or resolve potential conflicts.

9.3 Global Advocacy and Support

The charity continues to raise awareness of global injustices through seminars, public meetings, official correspondence, fundraising, and special prayers. This year, as in previous years, we have actively advocated for and supported Muslim and Christian communities facing hardship in Palestine and India.

9.4

Islamic Marriage and counselling

The Institute continues to facilitate family and relationship support by:

• Conducting Islamic marriage ceremonies—primarily hosted in local mosques—following thorough due diligence.

• Offering confidential marriage counselling rooted in Islamic principles for couples navigating difficult circumstances.

9.5

Adult Islamic Learning

Our scholars conduct weekly adult classes, accessible both in-person and online, catering to learners from foundational to advanced levels. The curriculum includes:

• Quranic recitation (Tajweed) and exegesis (Tafsir)

• Islamic theology and belief (Aqeedah)

• Classical Arabic and Prophetic traditions (Hadith)

• Islamic jurisprudence (Fiqh)

• Islamic history and modern challenges

• Open discussions on contemporary and wider community topics

10.0 Income Sources

The Peace Institute is financed entirely by voluntary contributions from the Muslim community. Our income streams consist exclusively of traditional Islamic almsgiving and charitable donations, namely Zakat, Sadaqah, Fitrana, and Lillah. The trustees confirm that the organisation does not rely on, nor has it received, any alternative forms of funding or external grants in this or preceding financial periods.

11.0 Going Concerns

The Peace Institute remains a stable organisation, fully capable of meeting its current obligations and continuing its charitable work for the foreseeable future. All operational activities continue to be managed and delivered by our trustees and dedicated volunteers in a strictly voluntary capacity.

12.0 Trustees' Responsibilities

The Charities Act requires the trustees to prepare financial statements for each financial year that give a true and fair view of the charity's financial position and its surplus or deficit for that period. In preparing these statements, the board of trustees is required to:

• Select suitable accounting policies and apply them consistently.

• Make judgments and estimates that are reasonable and prudent.

• State whether applicable accounting standards have been followed, disclosing and explaining any material departures within the financial statements.

• Prepare the financial statements on a going concern basis, unless it is inappropriate to presume that the charity will continue its operations.

The trustees remain responsible for maintaining proper accounting records that disclose with reasonable accuracy the financial position of the charity at any given time. They are also tasked with safeguarding the charity's assets, which includes taking reasonable steps to prevent and detect fraud and other irregularities.
