The trustees meet regularly as required and are responsible for all decisions taken about running the organisation and the activities provided by the COI. To assist in the smooth running of the charity the trustees recruit volunteers on a project-by-project basis.
5.0 Appointment and Induction of Trustees
The Board is responsible for the recruitment of all new trustees. No new trustees have been appointed this year. As and when new trustees are recruited they will be chosen for their understanding of the community and will have earned the respect of the wider community or have the potential to do so.
When recruiting new trustees, we will seek to identify young people who,
-
Regularly attend events and functions organised by the charity.
-
Are willing to volunteer to help in our broader community work.
-
Can represent Islam as a peaceful way of life.
Potential trustees will be invited to attend trustees' meetings as observers and will be given more details of the charity's aims and activities. Following this, if all agree, they will then be proposed as new trustees at the subsequent trustees' meeting. This process allows due consideration of the person's eligibility, personal competence, specialist knowledge and skills.
Following the appointment, new trustees will be introduced to their role and given copies of the trust deed and a guide to the policies and procedures adopted by our charity. Several publications from the Charity Commission are also signposted including the guidance on charities and public benefit and the advancement of religion for the public benefit. This ensures that new trustees are aware of the scope of their responsibilities under the Charities Act. Initially, new trustees will work with an existing trustee assisting with particular activities and projects run by the charity.
6.0 Risk Management
To safeguard the organisation, the trustees assess risks on a project-by-project basis and satisfy themselves that adequate systems are put in place.

8.0 Strategies
The trustees have a long term aim to build a "Peace Centre" which will be a onestop facility where all people (people of faith and no faith, Muslims and nonMuslims) or those who wish to know more about our faith can gather together to learn.
This facility will be accessible to all who wish to understand real Islam in the 21st century and its compatibility with global universal values and train the next generation of youth.
9.0 Activities for the Financial Year
The activities of "The Peace Institute" have been curtailed. The work undertaken has been varied and mainly concerning nurturing youth and raising concerns regarding injustices and prejudices mainly in the holy lands.
Our activities and initiatives included the following;
9.1 Interfaith Forums
The forum is supposed to be impartial and support the various faith and no faith people in their hour of need. With up to 40,000 Palestinian (mainly women and children) have been killed at the time of writing this report according to CNN. https://edition.cnn.com/2024/08/15/middleeast/gaza-death-toll-40000-israel-war-intl/index.html
The trustees felt the forum was not supportive of this suffering and the trustees resigned from the interfaith earlier in the year due to its insensitivities towards the plight of the Palestinians people and other local factors.
9.2 Faith Advisory Service with School, Colleges and Universities
Schools and Colleges throughout England continue to contact The Peace Institute directors for faith-related expertise to offer confidential advice and resolve conflicts / potential conflicts.

The Peace Institute continues to raise awareness through seminars, public meetings, collecting donations, writing to officials and holding special prayers. This year we have been active in supporting the plight of Muslims and Christians in Palestine and India.
9.5 Islamic Marriage and counselling

-
a) Conduct Islamic marriages after appropriate due diligence. Normally marriages are conducted in Mosques.
-
b) Offer marriage counselling service or couples going through difficult situation based on Islamic principles.

10.0 Income Sources
All the funds received by The Peace Institute are solely from Muslim donors in the form of Zakat, Sadaqa, Fitrana and Lillah. We have not received funding from any other source this year or previously.
11.0 Going Concerns
The Peace Institute is a stable organisation and can meet its obligations and continue its charitable work for the foreseeable future. Its activities are run by the trustees and volunteers in a purely voluntary capacity.
12.0 Trustees' Responsibilities
The Charities Act requires the trustees to prepare financial statements for each financial year which give a true and fair view of the state of affairs of the charity and of the surplus of the charity for that period. In preparing those financial statements the trustees are required to;
-
Select suitable accounting policies and apply them consistently.
-
Make judgments and estimates that are reasonable and prudent.
-
State whether applicable accounting standards have been followed, subject to any material departures disclosed and explained in the financial statements.
-
Prepare the financial statements on a going concern basis unless it is inappropriate to presume that the charity will continue in business.
The trustees are responsible for keeping proper accounting records, which disclose with reasonable accuracy at any time the financial position of the trust. They are also responsible for safeguarding the assets of the trust and hence for taking reasonable steps for the prevention and detection of fraud and other irregularities.
