Respective responsibilities of trustees and examiner

The charity’s trustees are responsible for the preparation of the accounts. The charity’s trustees consider that an audit is not required for this year under section 144 of the Charities Act 2011 (the Charities Act) and that an independent examination is needed. It is my responsibility to:

Basis of independent examiner’s statement

My examination was carried out in accordance with general Directions given by the Charity Commission. An examination includes a review of the accounting records kept by the charity and a comparison of the accounts presented with those records. It also includes consideration of any unusual items or disclosures in the accounts, and seeking explanations from the trustees concerning any such matters. The procedures undertaken do not provide all the evidence that would be required in an audit, and consequently no opinion is given as to whether the accounts present a ‘true and fair’ view and the report is limited to those matters set out in the statement below.

Independent examiner’s statement

In connection with my examination, no matter has come to my attention

1) which gives me reasonable cause to believe that in any material aspect the requirements:

2) to which, in my opinion, attention should be drawn in order to enable a proper understanding of the accounts to be reached.

a series of public concerts,
dramatic performances,
exhibitions and other cultural
events celebrating the cultural
heritage of Fitzrovia,London
and to promote maintain and
improve the education of the
public by providing workshops,
lectures and music education
work particularly (but not
exclusively) for people living in
Fitzrovia and to encourage the
giving of public performances
by schools, choirs and other like
organisations.
Summary of the main
activites undertaken for the
public beneft in relation to
these objects
Between 10 and 22 June 2021,
Team FitzFest presented a wide
selection of concerts, drama
pieces, talks, walks and social
and ftness events -- an
inclusive festival that paid
tribute both to the current
thriving community and to the
rich cultural history of the area.
Taking music out of the concert
hall and on to the streets of
London, venues included
unconventional spaces, such as
the Rebecca Hossack
Gallery and the Fitzrovia
Chapel.
Our diverse
programme included both low-
cost and free events as we
wanted to make the festival as
accessible as possible. You
didn't need to book as it was a
simple process of card payment
on the door.
Alongside many world-class
professional musicians
performing daily, our
international artists for 2021
included Nick Moran, Neil
McLaren and Katherine
Spencer.
These activities satisfy the
objects of the CIO in promoting
the arts and education of the
public by providing
performances and workshops.
FitzFest’s social media

presence continues to reach a large and diverse audience. The trustees are aware of the guidance issued by the Charity Commission on public benefit and are satisfied that the activities of FitzFest meet the criteria set out therein.

Section D Achievements and performance

Summary of the main
achievements of the charity
during the year
FitzFest 2022 celebrated
London's Fitzrovia with all its
musical heritage from past
generations together with the
contemporary diversity that
thrives today.
With a programme of music
made entirely by musicians who
have lived or worked in
Fitzrovia over the centuries -
and often played on historical
instruments made in Fitzrovia -
the festival was and always will
be grounded in the local
community.
The 2022 edition ofered an
array of community concerts,
workshops, social and ftness
events to draw the local people
into the festival and to
celebrate the current
community alongside the
historical culture of the area.
We used unconventional spaces
such as shops, bars, pubs, art
galleries and open community
spaces.
FitzFest 2022 touched the lives
of people from across London
as they enjoyed music, walks,
art and yoga (plus workshops
for children). Events were often
held in unconventional venues,
which made them accessible to
all and extra interesting to
attend.
Feedback we collected made it
clear that the festival brought
friends and neighbours
together, exploring unknown
parts ofthe city and

strengthening their sense of community. For them, Fitzrovia just felt a better place to visit, live or work. Building on the success of FitzFest 2019, we asked audiences and consulted with the community as to what events they would like to see staged at FitzFest 2023. We decided to reprise the Eric Coates piece that Sue wrote for FitzFest 2016. This was very successful and very well attended.
