RESPONSIBILITIES The Law applicable to charities In England and Wales requires us as the Trustees of the UK Fnends of the National Ballet of Canada to prepare accounts for each finanual year which give a true and fair view of the finanoal activities of the Chanty dunng the accounting year: and the Chanty's financial positson at the end of the year In prepanng those accounts the Trustees are required to (a) select suitable accounting poliaes and apply them consistently (b) make Judgements and estimates that are reasonable and prudent, and (c) prepare the accounts on the going concem basis (unless It Is Inappropnate to assume that the Chanty wll contsnue In operation) The Trustees are responsible for keeping proper accountsng records which disclose wth reasonable accuracy at any lime the finanaal position of the Chanty They are also responsible for safeguarding the assets of the Chanty and hence taking reasonable steps to prevent and detect fraud and other Irregulanties ORGANISATION'S 08JECTS To promote the arts of ballet and dance. and to Improve public understanding and appreaatson of the arts of ballet and dan￿ by supporting such of the activitses of the National Ballet of Canada as are exdusivety chantable according to the law of England and Wales, and by such other chanlable means as the UK Fnends Trustees think fit ACTIVITIES AND ACHIEVEMENTS The UK Fnends of the National Ballet of Canada (UK Fnends) was ￿gIStered as a chanty by the Charty Commission on 15th November 2016 (Registered Charty Number 1170186) The actsvitses of the eighth year of the UK Fnends ended on 30th June 2024 Events for the Communi The￿ ￿re no communty events held for the fiscal year ending 30 June 2024 The UK FnerKls conlinL*d rts On￿oing relationship wth the Canada Club Activities for the Donors/Members We had several events for the UK Fnends In this penod for our Members 1 > On October 7thlb 2023. we helped to organise the European p￿rnIe￿ ol the documentary film, "Swan Song" (about the development of a new Swan Lake ballet by the National Ballet of Canada's former Artistic Director Karen Kain) at the BFI London Film Festival A talk was held after the film wrth director (Chelsea Mcmullen) and producer of the film (Sean O'Neill). wth Karen Kain (former Artistsc D1￿clOr of the National Ballet) and Robert Binet (assistant choreographer to Ka￿n Kain) a8 ￿11 88 Oli Harbottle {Ch￿f Content Officer of Dogwoofj was trwrrfJ lo get the film distnbuted in the UK. The Natsonal Ballet of Canada was represented by Barry Hughson (ExecLrtNe Director of the Natsonal Ballet of Canada) and Karen Kaln We had apKYoximately 25 attendee8 from UK Fnends (IndLxling the Canadian High Commis8K)n to the UK) and his fe, Pamela Kendel The UK Fnends held a reception afterwards at ￿ttle Mayfaw, Soho House. The vh)ole event was very well-received by our UK FneTrJs' members arKI the a￿J￿r 2) On 10th February 2023. UK Fnends In￿ted approximately 20 UK FneTrJ8 and membern to the opening of Robert Bir￿1 s piece, "Dark wth Excessive Light", at the ￿nbury Theatre, Royal Opera House Robert Binet was a choreographer the National Ballet of Canada This was a co-produthon wrth the Nats'onal Ballet of Canada aTrJ the Royal Ballet We held a small receptson afte￿ardS for the memberB. Hope Muir (new Artistsc Irector of the National Ballet of Canada), Barry Hugh8on and Dlana Reitberger (Director of Development of the National Ballet of Canada) attended, ￿presen￿r& the Nabonal Ballet of Canada Ke￿n O'Hare, D1￿clOr of the Royal Ballet also attended Th18 event was Well-￿CeIved by our guests The High Commissioner. Bary Hughson resigned from his role as the Executsve Director of the Natsonal Ballet of Canada He assumed the role of Executive Director of Amencan Ballet Theatre In New York Cty We ￿ld Trustees. meetsng via Zoom on 3rd May 2024 The attendees were Nancy Miller, Kathleen Crook, Bary Hughson The trustees also Invrted Diana Rertberger (Director of Development of the National Ballet of Canada) to this meeting and asked If she would agree to replace David Banks as a trustee of the UK Fnends of the National Ballet of Canada The trustees had voted for Diana to repla￿ DavKI Banks as a trustee (who had previously resigned due to Illness) p￿MoUSlY and Diana accepted Barry discussed his recent resignation Ich would come Into effect Juty 1st 2024 The trustees voted and agreed to keep Bary Hughson on as a trustee until the time when the National Ballet of Canada found a new Executive Director of the National Ballet of Canada. We would ask this new Executive Director to replace Bary Hughson on the UK Fnends Board of Trustees On￿ helshe had a penod of tsme to settle Into the new Job 11 was agreed at this meetsng that t Chair's and Trustees Temis of offi￿ would be maintained and re-vlslted once the Natsonal Ballet of Canada 8 first Tour to London In 11 years In October 2024 was completed The Trustees also moved to re-appoint our accountant, Jan Hart, for another year Much discussion at the trustee meetsng of 3rd May 2024 was conceming the up-coming tour by the Nabonal Ballet of Canada to Sadlerfs Wells, London from Wednesday 2nd October to Sunday 6th October 2024 The UK Fnends agreed to take an active interest In obtaining sponsorship for the tour, to work wth the Canadian High Commission in London to promote the tour, and to arrange acbvibes for the Patrons of the tour coming to London Nancy Miller announced that Pamela Kendel, wfe of the Canadian H￿h Commissioner to London, agreed to be our Tour Patron and that the Canadian High Commission agreed to hold an aftemoon tea for tour at the High Commission. Report and all of which are continuing The accounts have been prepared In accordance wth the Statements of Recommended Practice for charity accounts.
