NOTTINGHAM TURKISH COMMUNITY 2023-2024 ANNUAL ACTION REPORT
9th June 2025
Following our last General Annual Meeting, we have had another successful active year. I would like to thank you all for being a part of our growing community. Thankfully, we re-opened our school in September last year and returned to face-to- face teaching every Sunday at Fiveways Community Centre. Online teaching continued in the week, on Tuesdays. We organised regular trustee meetings, at Fiveways Community Centre, to ensure that every step made and every event participated in was decided democratically, together, by all of our trustees and from time to time our wider members. NTC Turkish Language and Culture School had a fruitful year with the leadership of our chairman Ali Topaloglu and head teacher Ergin Omac.
We also started to Turkish classes in the 2023-2024 academic year at Kirkby in Ashfield Turkish Community School on 3 rd October 2023 and registration to introduce new members to our community, answering any queries and many new pupils joined us. Soon after we agreed at meeting with new management at Diamond Community Centre, to hire classrooms.
The decisions we made together, in unison, throughout the year strengthened our togetherness and cohesion. We also would like to show our appreciation to for our trustees and volunteer teachers and helpers. Following a joint decision by the trustee board, we applied for the
“Weekend Schools Support Grant Programme YTB” and “Preschool Bilingual Education support programme” opened by the Presidency for Turks Abroad and Related Communities (YTB) just before the close of the 2023/24 academic year. I would like to say special thanks to Mehmet Emin Aydinbas, for his extra-ordinary effort to secure funding from YTB to support our community and its needs. We been granted for two projects from YTB the Presiency for Turks Abroad and Related Communities. First one is “Türkçe Saati 2023-2024 Tohum (Modül1) and the second is “Türkçe Saati 2023-2024 Fidan (Modül 2)
We participated again “Knowledge competition” held in Londonon the date March 2024, organised by Turkish Embassy Educational Councillor. We won the fourth place between UK Turkish Language and Culture Schools. We are proud of and congratulate our students that brought this pride to our school. Also we appreciate our teacher that prepared our team for this competition. We organised celebration activities to celebrate Turkish National Day on 29 October 2023 and Children Festival 0n 23 April 2024.
We reneved a new room hire contract signed with “Sherwood Community Association CIO” on the adress Woodthrope House Mansfield Road Sherwood Nottingham NG5 3FN. We are having our educational activities in this adress since October 2023.
We attended many meetings organised by various official bodies and organisations to raise awareness and funds for our community projects. Our charity was founded not only to serve the Turkish community but also members of wider communities. In line with our aim of achieving this goal, this year we built a stronger relationship with the general public by organising iftar programme at the Five Ways, Edwards Lane, Arnold, Nottingham, NG5 3HU and Eid -al Fitr Programme with family picnic at Wollaton park.
On behalf of the trustee board, I have briefly outlined our activities from the beginning of the year as necessary for the 2023-2024 Nottingham Turkish Community General Assembly. We have gained many new members of community over the past year, I would like to take this opportunity to welcome them once more. Thank you, once again, our founder and current trustee members for sacrificing their time to getting to the point we are at today.
