**NOTTINGHAM TURKISH COMMUNITY 2021-2022 ANNUAL ACTION REPORT**

## 1st June 2022

Following our last General Annual Meeting, we have had another successful active year, after long-lasting effect of the Covid-19 pandemic. I would like to thank you all for being a part of our growing community. Thankfully, we reopened our school in September last year and returned to face-to-face teaching every Saturday. Online teaching continued in the week, on Tuesdays. We organised regular trustee meetings, at Fiveways Community Centre, to ensure that every step made and every event participated in was decided democratically, together, by all of our trustees and from time to time our wider members. NTC Turkish Language and Culture School had a fruitful year with the leadership of our chairman Ali Topaloglu and head teacher Ergin Omac. We also started the academic year at Kirkby in Ashfield Turkish Community School on 3[rd] October 2021 and registration to introduce new members to our community, answering any queries and many new pupils joined us. Soon after we agreed at meeting with new management at Diamond Community Centre, to hire classrooms. The decisions we made together, in unison, throughout the year strengthened our togetherness and cohesion. We also would like to show our appreciation to for our trustees and volunteer teachers and helpers. Following a joint decision by the trustee board, we applied for the “Weekend Schools Support Grant Programme YTB” and “Preschool Bilingual Education support programme” opened by the Presidency for Turks Abroad and Related Communities (YTB) just before the close of the 2021/22 academic year. Within a few weeks a written reply received accepting our application for all projects was submitted to YTB. Criteria of these programmes were met and a final report has been submitted to the YTB. Furthermore, we applied to 2 new programmes administrated by the YTB for the 2021-2022 educational year. The first being “Nottingham Okul Öncesi Çift Dilli Eğitimi Destek projesi 2021-2022” for children aged 0-6 years. The second; “Nottingham Türkçe Saati Projesi” project pupils that attend Class 1, Class 2 and Class 3. Both of the projects were authorised and accepted by the YTB in the October 2021, We have implemented the projects into our Language and Culture School. Successfully completed these two projects in June 2022. With these two project granted total £ 10.078.-.

Cancellations due to Covid-19 meant that we couldn’t participate in competitions held in London physically. Very many planned activities has been cancelled, as annual competitions organised by the Education Counsellor of the Turkish Embassy to London, Book Reading Competition, National Children’s Day Celebration organised by the Consulate General to the Republic of Turkey. 99th National Day, Anniversary of Republic of Turkey. But luckily General Knowledge Competition hasn’t cancelled. Its has been held on 11[th] Jun at London. We took place with our team as Nottingham Turkish Community Turkish School.

We attended many meetings organised by various official bodies and organisations to raise awareness and funds for our community projects.

I would like to say special thanks to Mehmet Emin Aydinbas, for his extraordinary effort to secure funding from YTB to support our community and its needs.

our charity was founded not only to serve the Turkish community but also members of wider communities. In line with our aim of achieving this goal, this year we built a stronger relationship with the general public by organising iftar programme at the Five Ways, Edwards Lane, Arnold, Nottingham, NG5 3HU and Eid -al Fitr Programme at Colwick park.

On behalf of the trustee board, I have briefly outlined our activities from the beginning of the year as necessary for the 2021-2022 Nottingham Turkish Community General Assembly. We have gained many new members of community over the past year, I would like to take this opportunity to welcome them once more. Thank you, once again, our founder and current trustee members for sacrificing their time to getting to the point we are at today; I hope these are the milestones of further success that we will see together in the future.

Kind Regards,

Ali Topaloglu
